Lets just pretend for a moment that the industry doesn't suck totally....

I'm keeping my fingers crossed on getting selected for a KC135 slot. After completing all of my training what kind of job can you usually get? Would I be qualified enough to apply to the majors, commuters, or would it be back to flight instructing? Do some places require less time for military pilots?

Thanks in advance.

MarineGrunt,
Make no mistake, heavy time is good time. I think your problem will be getting enough total and Turbo jet PIC time. The majors were usually looking for 1500 hrs of total time with varying amounts of multi eng and PIC time. However, in todays market it is not that competitive. A lot of companies (ATA, NetJets, etc) are now publishing 2500 hrs as their min time. With all the furloughed guys out there it is not a problem for them to find people. That being said, ACA was hiring guys with that much time right alongside interns with 700 hrs and no jet time. ACA required less time if you were a military pilot. The regionals typically hire a varying mix of pilots. From what I have seen, tanker guys tend to get a lot of time compared to the pointy nose guys. Try and get rated for PIC in your guard unit as fast as possible. Be a flight hour whore as much as possible. If someone is short on pilots they may be willing to bend their published mins. Also, if they like you in the interview, they will hire you over someone with more time that they don't like. I recommend guard bumming as much as possible until things pick up. If you can get a regional or any airline job, you can also get a lot of time off for military training, although they are your days off. You can make more in the guard than as a regional FO. But you get your health benifits, etc from the airline. Just be advised there are a lot of ways to milk the system and make it all work. PM me if you want more details.
