Dear flightinfo.com members,

I'm currently trying to obtain a flying position. I received an email back froma potential employer. Please comment on what you think and if anyone knows of some better opportunity please let me know. Thanks for your help!!

PA32 scheduled commmuter operation between the island nations 5 miles apart. Close enough to allow easy maintenance of gliding distance to land, but far enough apart, and the water too deep to build a bridge. As many as 400 people per day on short flights. It is a high volume, high intensity schedule that is demanding on the pilot and all other employees. 80 hours per month or more with around 250 landings per month. Pay is $1600 per month on a salary basis.

PA32 Job...

Sounds like it's out on Saipan in the Mariana's. If it is, I take it you're gonna fly for PIA or Freedom Air. Either way, I have a friend who just left from there. If this is the case, and you want to talk to someone who just left there, pm me, and I can put you in contact with him.

I just did the math...I think it's about $1.25 a trip. Food for thought.

?? what am i missing?

1600 / 250 = $6.4 per trip

or 1600 / 80 = $20/hr

some more math:

80 / 250 = ~20 minute trips...

Considering that airplane glides like a brick when heavy............I may have some issues with that whole gliding thing!! :)

400 pax a day in a cherokee 6=5 pax per trip=80 trips per day,20 days a month=1600 trips/$1600 =$1.00 per trip. I was being generous, and joking.

There are lots of decaffinated brands on the market that are just as tasty as the real stuff. Or so I'm told..

it appears the pax per day # isn't quite correct. Doing the math just doesn't add up with the other info. You can't be flying 24 hours a day (say .3 hobbs * 80 flights a day = 24 hours).

Doing some reverse math i come out to about 65 pax / day

Taking your example of 20 days a month - divide ~80 hours into it and you get 4 hours a day. Say a trip time of ~.3 hobbs (80 hours / 250 landings) and you get ~13 trips a day. 5pax a trip thats 65 pax a day per plane.

but going back to your equation... since it says 250 landings a month, we can assume he goes on 250 trips. Thats $6.4 a trip then.

But since you brought it up - what would be a good $ value per trip?
