We had a very senior Mainline captain on the jumpseat the other day and he had a couple of comments about the whole mesa j4j agreement.

The furloughed guys that would go to mesa to fly a jet now have to work under the work rules of the carrier they choose. Mainline has been watching the mesa deal and seem to think that mesa is keeping their contrct crappy in order to limit the amount of furloughees that would come to their company. He didn't seem to think many would go to Mesa as few have agreed to go to Midway or other carriers, they make more on unemployment.

Mr.Mainline Jumpseat Captain also said that if few or no Airways pilots want to go to Mesa, then we just won't use them. Sounds fair as J4J is primarily for Mainline jobs.

Airways got the thumbs up from creditors to emerge from bankrupcy. One of the little know stipulations from G.E. Capital is that jets financed have to go to Airways group (wholly owned).

We'll see where this all goes, look for alot of changes at airways group, especially on the regional side, after the war and we emerge from bankruptcy.

Filling jobs

The MESA jobs for U furloughees are being filled. However, many guys are passing on the offers now. I suppose there are many different reasons, and each guy has his own. There are a handful of guys in training with Midway as well.

Unemployment does not pay more than the J4J deal at Mesa. I believe the pay for FO's is somewhere around $30/hr. Keep in mind that half of the jobs are Captain positions, which obviously pay more than that.

This is ridiculous. All mainline pilots will go to the bottom of the list. If there are not enough mainline guys to fill the 70 contracted jets under J4J then Mesa hires off the street. Either way it has almost no effect as all these pilots will be on the bottom. If you really think Mesa pilots accepted this crappy contract for this your an idiot.

Dude, you should know better then to listen to gossip passed in the jump seat. Mesa has long term contracts with Mainline that have LARGE penalties if they are canceled. I can promise you that Mesa will be flying for mainline for a long time and will fulfill the contract for the 70 jets under J4J as long as long as they can get the financing for them.

Good to here that mainline is almost out of BK. Maybe it will give the industry a boost. (trying to think positively). As far as your second comment, mainline has NEVER financed any jets for any of the contract carriers so this means nothing for them. It should mean that the WO's will start getting jets soon and that is also very good news. It's a long time in coming for you guys.

I agree, lots of growth for EVERYONE! Hopefully we will start to see a stronger GROWING mainline and some of the 1700+ pilots on furlough get a recall. (Again just trying to think positively)
