I usually don't post here but monitor the board every once in a while. I seen that someone posted about JetBlue openings a while back and that pay was kind of low for the JFK area. I know that they start at $50,000 a year now. Does anyone have any insight as to how life is over there? I'm not familiar with the NYC area, I know it's very costly to live there. Any info on the NYC area (i.e. cost of living, commuting possibilities to surrounding areas, etc.) If there are any JB dispatchers on here, any word on how things are there would be greatly appreciated.

Furthermore, I see that AirTran is hiring. I've seen the two posts on aviation interviews.com and was wondering if there are any current/past dispatchers that can speak to how life is/was over there. Thank you

I grew up about 5 miles SE of JFK in Nassau county in what's called the "5 towns" area. Cost of living is about as high as you'll anywhere. Taxes, car insurance, housing it's all expensive. Anything in the 5 towns (Woodmere, Lawrence, Hewlett, Inwood, Cedarhurst) is gonna cost you. May find something reasonable in Inwood, but you probably won't want to live there.

Long Beach is about a 25 minute drive to JFK (no traffic). It's a decent ocean front town outside the city limits. Lots of rentals near the beach. I'd look there. Atlantic Beach is nice also, it's one town west of Long Beach. More expensive and very quiet.

Overall, I'd say the QOL in NY and western Long Island is pretty low. That's why I moved away.

Thanks -9 Capt, I really appreciate the info...that's my biggest concern is qol, my wife isn't completely sold on NYC either..thanks again

I think JetBlue would find a lot more people interested in working for them (even for less money) if they moved the office to.. well, anywhere but NYC.
