I wanted to get the opinions of some of the guys and gals flying heavy metal on this one. Is having turboprop PIC going to be as competitive as having regional jet/glass PIC? I've asked this question to both RJ pilots and turboprop pilots and as you can imagine got very different answers. Of course the RJ pilots say jet/glass time is going to be a must to be competitive and the turboprop pilots no way it's the turbine PIC time that counts.

Doesn't matter much. Go with whatever will get you the most turbine PIC. When it's all said and done you'll likely end up with the vast majority of your time in jets. You'll have fond memories of flying props.

Will give you a non-expert opinion, I have been heavily involved in simulator and line training on the bus, I would think that if given the choice, regional jet time would be a much better preparation to the A320. Similar speeds, range, weather and systems too, my answer relates to the modern jet with glass airliners such as 717, A320, 738, 777. Hope this helps.

Turbine PIC is the key (preferably 121). It doesn't matter if it's jet or prop. However, some airlines want you to have turbine time in aircraft over a certain weight (20k, etc). Check out the hiring requirements at major airlines for specifics. I fly with people with both backgrounds (mine being turboprop), and we all made it to a major airline. You will too, whichever route you take. Good luck!

All turboprop. No/Zero jet. I got on at a cargo outfit in MEM that is all jet.

You need to meet mins. So the correct answer is whatever will get you there the fastest. The 2 other people hired from my group were ERJ and A320 pilots. Good luck!

Marinedog,

Get PIC in any multiengine turbine airplane as fast as you can. It doesn't matter if it's jet or t-prop. I'm with Quiet Flight. I've been a t-prop CA for 6 1/2 years at a 121 regional airline. I am now in the pool for FedEx. It's all about networking to get an interview once you meet the airline's minimums. It worked for me. Good luck! :)
