I found this on another forum and thought it might be interesting. A seperate post on this topic was by a CJ3 driver that I thought very interesting.

The jetstream has been unusually strong this past week. This has caused problems for westbound flights, particularly those operated by jetBlue. Apparently their Airbuses dont have the range to make it across the country in these kinds of conditions. I guess it's good they aren't listing RJ flights. I've heard there are some that have to stop almost every day.

On the other hand, I recently flew a Citation CJ3 non-stop from SMO (Santa Monica, CA) to ORF (Norfolk, VA). And landed with more than minimum reserves, AND didn't have full tanks when we departed.

Other Citation pilots out there will understand how significant that is.

Would you have made it the other way - ORF to SMO? Just curious what the legs are in the CJ3; lately I can barely make Greenville to Corpus on one bag of gas in the C-12.

No way.

This is ridiculous! Jetstream Schmetstream!! Heavens to mergatroid they put enough fuel on to make it to their destination. Yeah that extra 5000 lbs. on a plane that weighs nearly 200,000 would break the bank.

Even my airline lets you put extra fuel on at captains discretion without blinking an eye. As a matter of fact, 3000 in addition to the release fuel is the norm. Whats up with JB? Maybe their passengers will say enough is enough. They buy a non-stop ticket and then end up wasting an hour stopping off and getting fuel? That TV only goes so far!
