Just updated my resume online and got to thinking about a few things. Can anyone tell me if I'll have to live near JFK if hired? If so, for how long?

Also am I wasting my time applying to them? I excede their mins., but not really close to what they list as competitive.

I have a purely corporate background. Does this put me at a disadvantage?
I have updated my resume 3 times, and no response. Is this normal? Usually I at least get a "thanks, but no thanks" letter.

I should also say that I don't know any of their pilots and therefore don't have any rec. letters. This is tough b/c I don't frequent the airline terminals as a corp. pilot.

Thanks

Quick answers to your questions ...

No you are not waisting your time. Do not expect any reply from the internet job app.
Remember if you do not apply the answer is always NO. If your resume is picked out for the interview process you will be notified.
You can live anywhere you want as long as you are available for your flights. JB crews live in all 50 states. Chances are you will require a crash pad in JFK base area if not near your home. Current pilot bases JFK/FLL/LGB.
There are plenty of JB flight crew with copporate only background. The real question is: Is your time competitive? I think you answered your own question.

The LOC is not even looked at until you have been to an interview. It is YOU, not the LOC that will get you there. Remember the LOC's are from pilots that have flown with you, that pilot does not need to be a JB pilot.
It is nice to know someone that is there to get the current feel for the airline but not required.

Stay with it and build your time.

One of our guys lives in HI and commutes back and forth to DTW - he does pretty good with a 16-day off line... it can be done, just requires a little imagination in jumpseating (although I don't think I'd personally want to do it). :D

I've asked the same "competitive" question at AIR, Inc career fairs and still can't get a definitive answer. I'm sitting on about 6,000 hours total, previous B727 command, current Part 121 jet command, applied back when they started operations, 4-year degree, no skeletons, updated every month for the last 8 months or so like they said to do, still no phone call...

I've been watching the boards over the last year and it seems that the corporate guys that get called seem to have about 4,000 to 5,000 hours and the 121 guys tend to have 8k to 10k+ - interesting disparity.

It just seems to be a mystery who gets called and why out of the computer "pool" of applicants.

Gear Guy: Stay where your at. For the love of all that is Holy. You don't want to get into bed with this one.
