VERY EXPENSIVE for sure.

But from a pilots point of view, the pay and benifits are unmatched. The Chief pilot is also a stand up guy who will protect the crews from unfair treatment. Each account is unique unto itself, and the crew input and involvement is directly related to the success of the relationship. It is heads and tails above some of the mom & pop operations.

There are excellent management companies out there (esp. in the NY area) that aren't mom & pop stores, but don't match the size of Jet either.

Often time size of the organization has no bearing on how your own experience is going to be. Remember, most management companies will take every penny from you they possibly can - they do not have your (or your companies) best interest at heart.

I have first hand experience with how Jet operates - trust me, it ain't pretty. The only ones making money are the people at Jet, no-one else.

With your experience, which management companies excel, from a line pilot perspective.

Best Regards,

caseyd

I can only speak about the NY metro area, as that is the area I am in. Both Executive Fliteways (EFI) and Excelaire at Islip (ISP) are top quality outfits, from both the management as well as the crew side of the house. I personally have 3 years of direct involvement with EFI. Both currently manage around 15 - 20 aircraft each. Excellent and forward thinking management, both have a proven track record. And it's easy to speak to the President of either; try that at EJM or the other large management operations.

To answer your question more accurately.......................
From a line pilots perspective you will not likely find that any of the smaller "mom & pop" including EFI and Excelaire match the benefits and/or pay that JET,EJM, or TAG/Sentient offer.
Things like Life Insurance @ 2x salary, excellent medical/dental/vision insurance at typically much less cost to the employee, a 401k thats decent ($ for $ match to 6% in most cases), AD&D coverage, STD and LTD, tuition reimbursment, and more. I'm not saying that some smaller companies don't offer all this but typically their benefits are lacking by comparison.
I have a buddy who's account just left TAG/Sentient and went to a smaller certificate holder (but bigger than EFI and Excelaire combined) and his Life insurance cost went up over $2K/yr and he's losing about $4500/yr in the new 401k (which he can't contribute to for a full calendar year). We won't even talk about the lacking medical plan he's now stuck with.
True the big management companies make big bucks in fee's but from the LINE PILOTS perspective it's usually the better place to work provided you're on a good account.
PMVULB AvMgr, come clean!!!!!! In what capacity do you have direct involvment with those companies???????
Me thinks it's more of NON-Flying/Management type than a Line Pilots perspective. How about some disclosure as to your motivations.
FYI, I've worked for JA, TAG in past lives as a LINE PILOT and currently work for a smaller outfit. While the people are nice there is NO comparison perks of the bigger companies.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME!! From a pilots perspective, both EFI and Excelaire suck!!! Excelaire pilots are LUCKY to get 3 days off a month...especially the Legacy pilots....EFI pilots ALL hate the management over there, so obviously theyre not getting treated well. Pay is mediocre at best.
