JetBlue Adjusts Fleet Delivery Plan Through 2016

JetBlue Slows Growth While Maintaining Flexibility

NEW YORK, Dec. 4, 2006 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) (PRIMEZONE) -- JetBlue Airways (Nasdaq:JBLU) today announces a revised fleet delivery plan designed to manage capacity growth while retaining maximum flexibility in order to respond to market conditions.

On December 4, 2006, JetBlue entered into Amendment No. 3 to our EMBRAER 190 Purchase Agreement to modify the timing of its EMBRAER 190 aircraft purchases. See chart below for details. JetBlue forecasts a 2007 available seat mile (ASM) capacity growth of 14-17 percent, which assumes additional aircraft sales, leases and/or assignments, a reduction from the 18-20 percent ASM capacity growth JetBlue previously expected.
"JetBlue has grown phenomenally since we first started operating in February 2000," said JetBlue Founder and CEO David Neeleman. "We are now entering a new chapter in the JetBlue story -- still a story of strategic growth, but more a targeted growth that builds on our market dominance on the East Coast, and in particular, our home base of operations at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport."

just a quick look at next 4 years: 72 firm down to 40 firm orders. net loss of 32 planes. that's alot. but by the same token.. 40 planes in 4 years is still a lot of growth and upgrades. whats the airbus order sheet look like in same period?

This sucks for upgrades but we need this. Our management can't handle normal day to day activities let alone hyper expansion.

With production problems in 2006, Embraer needs some room and this should help. It will be interesting to see if they move up some deliveries for other carriers that would like the 190 quicker. I actually think the 8 slots could smooth out the operation until they get a better handle on production.

I still think Jetblue needs to go to 319 to fill the gap between the 190 and 320, but they seem to be adament about either selling old a/c or slowing delivery. If there is major consolidation in the next 24 months, it will be interesting to see if B6 and the other LCCs will have the option of adding add'l capacity quickly. SWA has found that it's not easy to find add'l capacity when you need it.

:pimp:

In the end though, we are still getting the 101 firm orders. It will take longer to get them but we will end up with the same amount in the end.

Promise?;)

Don't count on it!

I hope they do but I rather stay away from the nonsense of projections of career progression to justify our pay scales. I'm sure you feel the same, I hope.

I promise!!!

I agree, you cant justify the pay scales at all. The 190 rates need to come up regardless. As for me feeling the same...I do.

All they have really done is just convert some of the firm orders to options.. This is a smart move in my opinion.. They can look at the delivery schedules take a good look at the economy ( terrorists, Fuel, Who Us Air wants to take over, Who the Russians are radiating etc... ) and make the decision to firm or pass the order..

Dont get me wrong we would all prefer UAL's pre 9-11 contract, 6 month upgrades, and 24 days off a month. Now lets see some pay raises at blue and life will be great for the time being

Snoop....why do you keep changing your avatar....its not going to make USC any better :-)

I still cant believe Florida got the bid for the game after all the bitching that they did. Cry babies.....

It's a picture of what happened the last time we played the U of M in the Rose Bowl.

It's is also a little thorn in the eye of a few UM bandwagon fans that I know at JetBlue and on this BBS.

Plus you will not allow me to use naked pictures of Brooke Burke; Bastard!

Fight On!

This delivery schedule, along with the 320s, will change many times throughout its period.

I too thought we should have some 319's onboard especially for those wicked headwind transcons in the winter, but the answer I got when I asked Dave N. directly was that the 319 has the same operating costs as the 320 and with 24 fewer seats operating just made it too expensive. For the few weeks the headwinds affect us (causing pit stops for fuel) don't make up for the rest of the year when the 24 fewer seats are not available. The 318 is even worse. Evidently, going with a new aircraft (launch customer) has it's perks (and issues) but is so far proving worth the risk.

It's gonna happen at somepoint. We aren't all six figure Bus Captains.

Isn't it time for one of you to tell me I should quit if I'm not happy?

hey snoopy,

you get lgb yet? what does it look like if i went to class right now for lgb?

thanks...hope you are good...

When JB management decided to buy EMBs, I knew it was going to be bad. JB went out of it's mold of having a single a/c fleet.

2016 - that's pretty optimistic in this business. At the current pace 2016 is four airlines away for me. Or maybe it's just 10 years closer to my AA recall. Good luck.

The unions will be coming for the FA's before ours does as soon as the brain childs start yanking out the a row of seats to get around having to paying 4 flight attendants instead of 3.

Our adjusted delivery schedule is just an example of poor management. Can't make money, sell aircraft or defer deliveries. Still can't make money, take away benefits. Still can't make money take a crew member of an airplane and remove some seats.

I thought the world of B6 when I first started but those days are long gone and my eyes are wide open.

Interesting Lake, in just over a year your eyes are wide open, and you seemingly have all the answers. Most of us are frustrated as well, but give me a break. Your broken rhetoric is starting to sound like the majority of this tired a$$ industry. What are you gonna say if we post a profit for 2006, or a modest one for 2007. Maybe your eyes weren't as open as they could be.....

If you're really that unhappy, you should find somewhere else to work. You're just making yourself miserable. I'm sure there is some other field of work or another airline that will live up to all of your expectations. Best of luck.
