I was passing Boca Raton airport the other day and noticed 2 J-41's in United colors parked on the ramp. Does anyone know who uses them? Or are they there for maintenance? Just curious.

Thanks in advance.

I think they are parked old ACA planes. Don't think they are getting used and are just waiting for someone else to buy/lease them. Could be wrong but I heard that ACA J41s have smaller engines on them then the ones we have at TSA, but ACA did put a FMS in thiers. And the smaller engines are why the ACA J41s are not getting bought.

Not quite - the engines are the same you guys just had a mod that allowed you to run your a little hotter than we ran ours. I suspect they arent getting bought because while it was a fun airplane for us pilot types it was terrible for the pax and it seemed like they broke with more frequency than was desirable...

Dude, that plane was an operational nightmare. We had sooo many W&B issues (can you say ORF/JFK), I can't say I miss them. I loved the CRJ in that respect -- it was pretty much a load and go and the numbers were just a formality.

Yeah I heard ours had more power so a mod does make sense. Anyways it does suck to be a pax in a 41. Mx issues and WB issues sure do come up a lot so that makes it fun to fly. Anyways it just seems like the ones that we are returning are not ending up in the desert and they are almost instantly getting bought and flown by companies in England. And in the crew room one day some of us were talking about why ours seem to be getting bought and the ACA ones seem to be sitting at random airports across the US and someone said they had smaller or less powerful engines. So thats were I got that thought.

A company called CQAir acquired a bunch of ACA J41s to start a new operation. I think. Check out www.cqair.com.
