I've been trying to break into a local 135 cargo operation for the past year. The usual updating my resume, grip-and-grin, networking ("I know so-and-so, an ex-employee of yours and a good flying buddy") etc.

Now, two fellow CFIs with less hours than me (one has only 23 hours multi!!) got hired by the outfit.

This industry is just killing me. Anyone else have similiar stories to share?

I wouldn't call it bad timing, but I've been hounding this corporate operator in my hometown for the past 3 years. They just bought their third challenger, hired 2 or 3 pilots, and I didn't even get an interview.

I guess I'm destined to live in Alabama the rest of my life. :(

Not surprising. I think most of us have stories like that to share. You should expand your search and not stay so focused on one operator. You might even find something better. Stick with it and ask yourself if you've really done everything you can to take that next step. When the answer is "yes", you won't have long to wait.

I feel for ya dude…

I wouldn’t call it the worst timing but I think we’ve all been there and understand where you come from.

Isn't hockey season 12 or 13 months long? Just think of all the free time that you have now to watch the Steeldogs?

I L'dMAO when I saw the new job position!

All I can say AGuyThatFlys(can I call you Guy from now on? I'm a slow typist), HAVE PATIENCE!. Of course you should always be ambitious and aggressive. It's necessary in this profession to get anywhere.
Don't forget the second rule though: Make the best of your current surroundings.
This job may seem like the Grail from your current position but once you're there, it's just another job. Just keep firing off resume's and beating on doors. While you're working as a CFI, load up on Instrument students if possible. I was told to do this when I was a CFI and it DID benefit me greatly. Instrument proficiency and knowledge of procedures will take you a long way.

Oh Shiite!......That's football!.......Sorry!
Doesn't UAB have a hockey team?

Try Ram Air Freight, they are hiring like crazy right now. They have been losing guys to the regionals and a friend of mine that was hired in May is already in training at Chautauqua. He was in a mult within a month. This industry works in weird ways sometimes but I would jump on this hiring train before it pulls out of the station!
