Here's another "it's not what you know, but who" and "don't burn any bridges" story:
Back in 1995, I left my flying job (for numerous reasons) to take a job in sales in an industry completely unrelated to aviation. While I was employed with this company, I recommended an acquaintance for a position at the same company (he was hired). I left after two years to return to aviation and my friend stayed on for another two years or so.
Fast forward to a month ago. Another friend tells me that a company nearby is looking for a chief pilot and that he has given them my name. As it turns out, the company looking for a pilot is the company where the friend I recommended years ago is now working. On top of that, the owners of the company in need of a pilot are good friends with my former boss at the job I took in 1995.
The company contacted me and told me that based on what my friends and old boss had told them, they wanted to hire me. And they did!
Moral of the story: the old saying is true--"It's not what you know, but who" and "don't burn any bridges along the way". Always be a good worker and do your best at whatever you do.
Best Wishes to Everyone,
Ultraman
