Hey guys. I got the call a couple of days ago for a interview in Honolulu next week. I am extremely excited. Does anyone know how many people are in the pool. Also, does anyone know about future class dates? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Mahalo!

PS- Should I line up a rental car for the interview or stay at the Best Western next to the airport?

If you can afford it, rent a car. Other than that, there is a class starting Monday, another on August 16th. And another every month thereafter. They are interviewing 48 per month. The goal ultimately is to have 300 pilots by December 2005. Right now, we have about 60. That is a big goal, but they have a bunch of planes coming.

They are signing the lease agreements on 2 DASH-8 200s right now. They are gonna try and get them to Hawaii in August.
Right now, the pool is empty. The class starting Monday was supposed to have 12, but it only got 8 because they are having trouble finding qualified people.

Thanks Whitey

I just booked my hotel. Only $59 per night. Thank you so much for the information. I cannot wait to get back to the Islands. Du you currently work at IA?

Aloooohaaaaa

Hey everyone,

I just got hired by Island Air...my class date is August 23...Any Advice before i start class would be nice. Thanks to everyone who helped me out. i wish everyone success in their flying endeavors.

You should rent a car. IA is on the other side of the airport and if they send you to take the drug test you need a way to get there. By time you pay the taxi, the rental will be cheaper. Check on the internet for good prices.
and if you are going to fly all the way to HI for an interview you might as well drive around and see soemthing.

does anyone know what the training is like? I hear that the Dash-8 systems are pretty complex as are the flows.

congrats on the class date!

congrats on the class date! I was in the June 7th class. Just finished up CPT and am going to sim in Seattle next week. Ground school was challenging but manageable. Just read ahead. You don't want the lecture to be the first time you're hearing about something. Electrical, props, engine,...are systems that definitely need some prep work. The training is very thorough. Take it seriously and you'll be just fine.

Training schedule went like this: 5 days of indoc, test on the 5th day. 10 days of systems, final on the 11th day (we lost 2 guys to the systems final - min 80% score req.). 2 days of CRM and a day of ACEs training which for us was canceled. Then groups will go to CPT(4 sessions) followed by sim in SEA(7 sessions). Then I think there's gonna a training flight, checkride and then IOE.

Good luck! and have fun!

i second what deepbsr says. take it seriously put in the time and study. its not difficult, it just takes a little more work. get your class into a study group and work on the stuff, etc. the test is difficult because GC doesnt know how to write test questions, not because the system is hard. i have heard they improved the test a little since then. but be prepared for BS tricky questions. one of his simpler tricks is putting the correct answer in QTS and LTRS.

who are your instructors?

Possible to get a specific class date?

Does anyone know if it is possible to schedule an interview now and request a class date in mid-november?

Survived so far. Yeah training is "greaaaaaat" ;)
sim was a humbling experience.

Hey DEEP! It's sushi time on you & your guy's return!

Don't expect any company to hire at your convenience. If you interview anywhere, you have to be willing to pack up and leave right away.

Besides do you realize how many classes of seniority would be ahead of you if you "requested" a November class date?
