Would anyone have good information about Island Air, e.g. how long after you return the application do they call for an interview? How long is upgrade? I have 3,000 hrs DC-8 and 2,000 hrs BE-1900, will this help? How many planes? I heard 8. Is it enjoyable to work their? Forget the money, I want to know if there is room for movement and is it fun? What kind of schedules and how many hours flown? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Is there any hiring still going on at Island Air?? What are their near future plans as regarding to pilot hiring?

thanks in advance

Varig,

I see you don't have an ATP and with your current time you should check into Mesa's ATP program. It's a week long and they guarantee an interview upon successful completion of the week program.

I'm not to sure about Island Air, but all I know is that they are sending out applications. That's what I'm trying to find out. Good Luck

They've been interviewing and just started a new hire class this week. The "sale" of Island Air from Aloha to the Gavarnie Holdings is currently on hold for another month. Expect that to slow hiring in the very near future, but all could change rapidly if the thing goes through. If/when the sale occurs, expect lots of hiring and growth. A guy with your experience could expect to hire into the left seat, or at least be there soon. Plenty of room for growth if their plans pan out, but as of today, the future is uncertain. Expect that to change in an hour and again in another hour. Island Air is still a great place to be if you have aspirations to fly for Aloha. The flying is fun and challenging. You are home every night. You know everyone you fly with. The schedules are generally 8 (very short) legs per day and you are on duty for about 8 hours. Right now I think they still have only 4 planes, but they expect to get up to 5 more this year (I think). As far as time between completing app and getting a call....there's no consistency there. Could be days, could be weeks, could be months. That time table is completely unpredictable. Do a search here and you'll find tons of info. Good Luck.

Charlie 1,

Thanks for the info but I haven't updated my information in a while. I am close to 3000 now with an ATP. I wouldn't mind staying in Hawaii and flying for Island Air:D

I know I still have a lot of time building to do before I'm ready (still a soon-to-be CFI). However, I had planned, upon meeting the requirements, to make Island Air my first application. My ultimate aspirations are towards Aloha. I've tried to keep an eye on things there, and just learned today about the "sale". What is the current status on the deal? AFTER the sale, will aloha still look to Island Air for pilots (my assumption is they would not)?

I see you work for Island Air. I recently recieved a letter stating the hiring FO mins are 1000 total and 20(TWENTY) multi. Please confirm this is a missprint for 200 hrs multi.

i'll definatly be updating my resume in 150 more TT!!! :D :D :D

yeah, that was a typo

I no longer work at Island Air, but can confirm from a management source that the minimums are 1000TT and 200ME (subject to change with the dominant swell direction). Good luck!

I have a friend in class now at IA. They were told that IA plans to have 3 mores classes of 12 in the next several months. Now is the time to get those apps in.

I have 1100TT/100ME. They just sent me a letter verifying that the mins are indeed 1000/200. :(

Two questions:

First: How to apply? E-mail? Snail mail address? And any contact in HR to confirm a resume has been received?

Second: How much flight time do IA pilots fly on average per month? Per year?

I was just out there and was going to walk in a resume somewhere, but didn't know where to go! Also would have helped if I had my resume with me...

I love Hawaii. :D

if you give me 100 total time i'll give you 100 multi, then we'd both qualify, see you in ground school.
