A little bird told me that there is going to be a new hire class in august. Anyone else hear this?

I have been on the rollercoster ride (trying to get on with them) for more than a year and am wondering what is going on over there. I am sure there are others that have been riding the same roller coaster and are wondering the same thing.

class starts next week on the 4th. its going to be a small class. i think there are only 3 people in the class. there is a possibility of hiring 3 more people in the near future from what i've heard.

Thank you for the heads up, Dash8. Do you also happen to know whether these new hires were from the pool or recently interviewed or more flowbacks from hawaiian?

latest

Latest rumor is IA will get another Dash.
Also there is suppose to be a class first week of Sept.
Anyone get a call yet?

Received an email from Niki in HR yesterday. Guess there trying to find out who's still interested in being in the pool. Including myself, the email was sent to 17 people.
If anyone hears anything give us a shout.

Just talked to Niki yesterday who informed me that the Sept ground school will have 3 newhires. The bad news is that the 3 people to fill those seats have already been selected. IMO, they didn't come from the hiring pool since they made their decision before they knew who was still in the pool.

Not to worry

Flt Ops and HR aren't even in the same building. They are close, but it's not surprising that HR might not be completely in the loop all the time about all things Flt Ops. One thing I do know, the new base bid results for Sept are out, and there are 9 slots allocated to new hires. Three of those are former Island Air dudes who are furloughed from HAL. I'm told they aren't in the Sept class, they are only going through recurrent along with the other folks in the company right now. As far as I know, there is a class scheduled for sept 6th and no letters have been sent. I've also heard the additional Dash rumor and perhaps another destination. As with all hearsay, the obligatory disclaimer; "I'll believe it when I call the visual on the field at that new destination from that new plane" applies. Good luck.

Goodluck everyone, now lets just hope they dont screw every one of the "current " IA pilots by making those guys captains!

Hawaiian at Island Air

How come Island Air is Hiring Hawaiian Pilots back if they already left the company. My cousin who flies at Aloha says that this is bad decision of the company or the union over there to let this happen. Are any of you guys working for Island Air?
Doesnt this affect you guys now? What are the minimums at Island Air?
I've been wanting to fly there since I started my flight training. Any advise or awnswers. Thank You.
just another wannabeflyer.

:D

island air

Yes, this will affect the current F/O's who do not meet the time requirements. There will be almost no movement for awhile to Captains.

"How come Island Air is Hiring Hawaiian Pilots back if they already left the company. My cousin who flies at Aloha says that this is bad decision of the company or the union over there to let this happen..."

I sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think the union of a company can tell the company who they can and can't hire. The union's "control" of what happens in relation to the pilot group is determined by what is in their contract.

For example, hiring mins. I've never seen hiring mins in a contract, but most companies have published hiring mins, which they change or ignore at will.

re:Island Air

This is true we cannot tell the company what the mins will be, and our contract does not state minimums. What I think "wannabeflyer" was reffering to was Aloha's no rehire policy. Although at Island Air we do have a rehire policy which is why the HA pilots can come back at the companies discretion.

From a employees percpective, it was just the way they went about re-hiring these 3 pilots that seemed a bit SLY.
AloHA.

Others may not like this opinion very much... I am sorry that it will be a longer wait for the current F/O guys at IA, but i feel much more sorry for the Hawaiian guys.

Imagine finally getting a chance to move on to the majors and then getting furloughed soon after. It may be tough for everyone else, but i think it's great that they are lucky enough not to be out on the street. At that point in your life it would hurt more to be jobless.

I was refering to the statement " ..the union over there to let this happen".
Just wanted to let "wannabeflyer" know that the union doesn't have control over a lot of things.
I've heard that statement before, "why did APLA allow this..."
Seems like many people on the outside think APLA controls everything. (probably from all the bad press about unions).
So for you young pilots starting out, if it's not in your contract, the company can do whatever it wants.

My buddy in HI just told me he saw an ad in the paper,
Island Air is looking for a dispatcher.
You need a dispatcher license, pays 10.65/hr.

3 guys

about those 3 hawaiian guys they hired back, theyre really good guys that worked for IA for quite a while. Hiring back that kind of talent is a sure bet for the company.
