I wanna say something here but I know it would come back to bite me in the ass.

They still do a good job....mainly since we don't know what's going on behind the scenes.

Always remember...you're not seeing 100% of the big picture.

Wash Center has all that north-south traffic, plus a bunch of major airports.

Yup, it sucks, but what can ya do other than say KA-CHING?

It's frustrating that while ATL will let you blast off into whatever weather is around and say "figure it out", IAD will be like an over-baring parents and say "no no, it's too dangerous, nobody flies" In addition, the arrival routes are (for lack of a better word) dumb. THe arrivals particularly the shnon arrival point you right at the airport, THEN north or south to the runway of choice vs. ATL's diagonal approach.

You guys don't know how good you have it. At least your controllers speak English and don't try kill you on a consistent basis.

I have to agree with this statement. At least from my experience. I've never really had to deal with the controllers out west so I can't speak about them. I know Washington Center has a more restricted amount of airspace to deal with when compared to say Atlanta. I've come into IAD really late at night before (delayed) with only 3 maybe 4 aircraft coming into the DC area. Still got the slow down, speed up, slow down, S-turn, speed up routine that seems to be common place.

IMHO new York has the same problems and seems to do a much better job but what is the point of bashing ATC on a pilot forum?

Definitely a training facililty. True story, my callsign changed to protect the innocent.

"Center ArrghJay 2536, request direct Montebello."
"I'm unable."
"Okay, how about a climb to flight level two seven zero then for ArrghJay 2536."
"I'm unable, you can expect that in 10 miles."
"Alright then, how about that traffic at the same altitude we're converging head-on with about 11 o'clock and one zero miles?"
"ArrghJay 2536 immediate right turn heading zero two zero. Break. Waterski 5535, turn right heading one zero zero."
*TRAFFIC, TRAFFIC*
"Waterski is in USAir express colors today."
Different controllers voice- "ArrghJay 2536 climb and maintain FL270 you're cleared direct to Montebello."

It is a nanny center and the training explains a lot. We all have to start somewhere, but do they all
Have to start there.
