to fly in the Guard or Reserves and also fly for a foreign carrier. For ex. an airline such as Cathay that has a NY domicile. The reason I ask is that I know US companies have to let you go for mil leave but what about foreign? Anyone know of guy/gals flying for foreign carriers and also in ANG/AFRes?

A flight engineer in my Reserve Unit was also a Professional Flight Engineer (PFE) for Japan Airlines. He got tired of, as an American, being a second-class citizen in the cockpit and got on with a U.S. carrier.

I was thinking about doing something similar eventually. The only thing I wanted to add is that sometimes overseas carriers will hire on foreigners as replacement workers. Basically, you could be a scab without knowing it.

This link will show you an example of what I am talking about. I am sure the incident is an isolated one, but you can see my point.

Good Question

I often wondered myself. I too was thinking you would have to be JFK based.

I'm not sure, but I believe our JAL guy was based in "Honarooroo." I'll ask him next UTA.

Ya know another interesting idea is crew leasing. However, I don't know how that works as far as seniority, preparing for retirement, etc. If you could be with a crew lease company as an employee on different assignments, that would be cool. If you were starting from the ground up every assignment, it would be a bad choice. Anybody know anything about this option?
