hiring speculation

From what was said by the poolies calling and internal rumors, it sounds like the poolies will be starting class very soon - within a month or two. The fact that the pilot app web site is down is not surprising. Post Sept 11th, when all the majors stopped hiring and started furloughing, the number of applications on file at FedEx went through the roof. FedEx charges 50 big ones for the app process, but I thought it was actually commendable they closed the window when they did. The hiring department's stance on the issue was we have wayyyyyyyyyyy more applications on file than we could ever get through, so save your 50 bucks and we will sort through our stack. I imagine the app window would open some time this year, but they still have tons of apps on file of willing and ready individuals.

On a slightly different note, another rumor to fan the flames. This is a single source, un-corroborated tidbit, but the F/O I flew with yesterday said he has a good friend who knows a dude that got a call for an interview recently. He didn't have very much more info, but he swore by this info. This is the first I've heard of interviews beyond the poolies, and I would wait for more supporting information before I do the happy dance.
