USAir fumbles towards their ultimate demise making the casual airline observer wonder what the point is. I guess it's nice that they're trying to keep people employed, that's always good, but that balance sheet still keeps appearing like a demon from aviation hell.

And then there's Henson (Piedmont), Quietly operating for years with the their financials buried deep within the USAir Group. Very convenient, but hardly representative of an operation I'm sure any serious shareholder would wonder why is not being elevated. They operate with a great quantity of the airplanes paid for, operating efficiently, all this with a disparaging eye from the union groups, indeed - horribly represented within the USAir group itself.

When the last light is turned off in Crystal City - do this operator a favor Dave, sell this "little carrier" to somebody that wants to really run an airline, they'll give you good money - 99% of their work will already be done. But then again I guess the sale would be up to the bankruptcy courts.

My guess is that PDT and ALG will soon be one flying a fleet of 40-50 Dash 8 on the east coast from single service outstations and smaller cities into the east coast hubs. On short and medium routes. This unless everything gets turned over to Colgan then the same thing by Colgan only with Saabs. There is and will always be a TP market on the east coast. Just look to CAL in Texas and Ohio, But also observe Skywest in CA where there are many smaller cities (close to bigger cities) like the east coast linked together with TP service. If I remember correctly I read in an interview with Sky Wests Pres. not too long ago that he visioned the E-120 flying around for along time in the current California and Pacific NW areas.

Now Alg guys, don't say that I'm repeating the famous "RJ's are just a fad" , I'm not, its just that there still and will always be a market for this type of flying bla bla bla bla.......

That's Spooky...

Interesting observation about Colgan - Henson's crew base in Norfolk now has a facility for Colgan.

It would be my hope that the wholly-owns would finally be set free from the idiots at USAir but a despicable paradox still exists in that Useless still needs to "feed" on them.

The wholly-owns are like child prodigies that completely sell out a music hall and then the parents sweep in and take all the money and credit. It's really a vicious cycle.

The wholly-owned subsidiaries need to be spun off in the best scenario. I have never understood why they don't combine ALG and PDT..... It's virtually the same operation except for sentimentalities. When they're freed from the clutches of dumb scope issues with mainline ALPA, they can go ahead and get the RJ's. I think DHC-8 400's would be a lot smarter though but mainline ALPA would probably get in a big tizzy about scope issues like they usually do.... Talk about a bunch of "chicken littles", YIKES!
