Does anyone know if the iPhone OS X is compatible with APDL/Logbook Pro?

I know some people have been having problems with the program and the Windows based Treo...

So far, according to their web site, it's not compatible. I just returned a Motorola Q because, aside from it being a crappy phone, it can't run APDL. APDL runs only on Windows Mobile (not for Smartphones) and Palm.

Is there a backpack with an I-phone pocket? Also if anyone makes an adapter to connect to the headphone jack.....;)

They need to update APDL. There hasn't been an update for it in at least 3 years. There's no reason why it can't run on the new Windows Mobile devices other than laziness of the programmers.

...who is also the websitemaster of Flightinfo.com...

With the release and early success of the iPhone and Intel-based Macs, the use of the Mac platform is ever-increasing and NC Software should reconsider its refusal to support the Mac OS.

I was a M$ user since the beginnings of DOS, but recently switched to a MacBook Pro and I'm not looking back! Having to run BootCamp just to use the logbook is a pain.

I'd like to use APDL on a smartphone, but I don't want to enter into a new 2-year contract with a Treo with the advent of the iPhone. If NC doesn't invest in itself and its customers, I only hope someone else comes up with a better product, or the equivalent of Parallels is developed for the iPhone so WindowsMobile products can be run in a virtual environment.

The "most advanced" logbook software should be able to run on the most advanced smartphone and OS.

I couldn't agree more. As a forever Mac user who went out and bought a XP laptop in '00 primarily to use LBP I've been hoping for a Mac compatible version. I've use a Treo 600/650/680 with ADPL and now am about to switch to the iPhone for the WIFI mostly.

I've started to use LogTen Pro:

It's a nice program which will have a ADPL-like set up using the iPhone.

My question to you is how can you afford that? You paid $499-599 for a phone? I'm sure it's cool as hell but can anyone justify paying that much money for a phone?

Makes me chuckle..

So many times we see comments about the plight of the regional pilot.

'How does management expect me to pay my bills making this kind of money?!'

'I don't make enough to eat with how much I take in!'

and on and on and on...

Then a few threads later we get...

I did <bought an iPhone> b/c I can now leave my laptop at home.

I guess life must not be that rough, that you can have these toys.

Hey Spinn555--while you've got your mouth open, I got something for it...

Who the he11 are you to judge what I do with my income? You aren't my wife and I don't owe you money.

I should live like a pauper because that is what the CEOs would have? Maybe I can petition the hotel committee to have us stay closer to a soup kitchen on overnights?

FYI, I have what I do because I worked through college while on scholarship, have no children, no debt, and a dual-income household. My car is 12 years old and looks and runs like new because I take care of it, just like my finances.

I did not pay a six figure sum for my ratings, run up my credit cards, purchase a car/house/boat/lifestyle that I could not afford. For those who did, I am truly sorry. I went into this industry almost two decades ago with the assumption that my retirement would be on my back. Guess what? It is.

Management may like to see us as beggars for a shiny jet. Try not to make them correct.

Do not ever confuse what we are paid for what we are worth.

Paid well or not, pilots aren't any different from the rest of society. There are the ones that can't manage money and are in debt up to their eyeballs living beyond their means. And then there are those of us driving used cars, not smoking, drinking responsibly, living frugally with advice from our Pastors, Clark Howard, and Dave Ramsey, and having a few extra $$ left over after maxing out our 401s and Roths.

I'm not beta-testing the iPhone for Apple and ATT, I'll pick mine up on craigslist when the newer model comes out. I guess I'll have to try out that other logbook software, too, unless NC breaks down and finally codes for the Mac.

Enjoy the new toys, boyz!

as long as apple keeps the iphone closed source you wont see APDL on it. i wouldnt hold my breath, or buy one hoping for it to happen.

the iphone is sexy and all, but hardly in the forefront. a PDA phone can do everything the iphone can do and more. where's the 3g, where's the gps, etc?

the iphone on the UI is nice, but its not exlusive to them.. people have already written UI's for WM PDA's that are identical to the iphone's.
