I was just recently into my second week of training with one of the fractional when human resource asked me to resigned for having a suspended driving license from 3 years ago. I was speeding 10 miles over the limit (55 on a 45 zone). Although, I was never convicted of DUI nor reckless driving, but my driving record remained with a suspended driving license for an alcohol level of .08 or above. Prior to this, I've only had one speeding ticket on my driving record. I did not brought up the suspention subject on the application nor the interview. Simply because in both scenarios I was asked, "If I've ever been convicted of DUI?" I answered "NO" to both. Which is the truth.
I would like to get some opinions how this is going to affect me in the future with the airlines. Any replies will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If your state allows it (after a certain period of time has passed since the last violation), have your record expunged and then re-apply. Then, you can safely say that your record is clean.

National Driving Register, should anyone consult it, won't reflect anything if the state record's been wiped out. But, to be sure, simply request a records check from the NDR after confirming that your state record has been expunged. NDR will send you a letter simply stating if there is a record of suspension/serious violation pertaining to you. There's also a phone number and a supervisor's name, should you wish to contact them with any further questions.

Good luck, and don't let small things get in the way.

Take the expunged record advice with a grain of salt. It "might" work. Depending on the state you live in, you may need a lawyer and it can be expensive. If you are asked in an interview or on an app, "has your D.L. ever been suspended", even though it has been expunged, if you say "no", you are lying.

I heard a horror story of a guy who got a DUI. A few years later, he had it expunged. He got on with a major and did not disclose the DUI since he thought he was safe because of it being expunged.

One week into class, he was given the boot because he didn't disclose. He had been flying for a few years with the DUI on his driving record, and as required, he had to divulge his DUI on his airman medical app. The paper trail caught up with him. I'm not sure how in depth the background checks go at the majors, but I know it is substantial.

Best thing you can do is put as much time between yourself and the incident and keep your nose clean while doing it. Being honest about the incident will probably get you a lot further than you think.

While we are on the subject of driving records, does anyone know if dismissed speeding tickets should be disclosed? They don't show up on the DMV records and probably not the permanent records since you weren't found guilty of it. Would there be a record anywhere?

Another question

I'm getting ready to throw my resume into the mix for some regionals and have a few background probs also. I bounced four checks in NC back in 1998 and 99. In NC, you have to go to court to pay a bounced check basically to make sure that it is paid. I was in college, broke, yada yada. These are on my record as "guilty" for the charge of worthless check. How bad is this, or is this something lighter? I plan on disclosing it, but don't know if it should be a big cause of concern, or that I just say "I was young, dumb and broke, but learned my lesson?
