I have an interview with Evergreen on June 16th. Anybody else ? Looking for info on the state of things over there. Is there still high furlough risk each year there ?
Can I commute on a lot of carriers ? Is cass coming ? Schedule still 16 on 14 off ?
Training contract ?

All this is greatly appreciated as always !

A friend of mine used to work there.

They do seem to furlough periodically. He got the axe and found work at a more stable carrier. I think since the DC-9's are gone all the flying is out of NY on the 74. Hopefully someone at Evergreen will have some answers for you.

I had an interview lined up a few months ago. I ended up staying put. My good buddy (747 F/O) has been furloughed 4 times in 4 years. In addition to this the pay was terrible. I heard a rumor however, that things have changed as far as the furlough thing goes. Historically, they have hired and furloughed IAW the coming and going of seasonal contracts. Hope this helps. Good luck!

EZ is a good place to work...big hiring comin up. Furloughs have stopped. I dont think that they will furlough again. The pay is good......you can double your pay check if you stay out a few days! From the start I got a line and never sat reserve! Take it for whats its worth..EZ is a good place and some of the best flying in the world. Sched is not that great...but tell me a place that is!

Good luck.

You refer to the HK-1 at the museum in McMinville, the so-called "Spruce Goose". Kaiser had pulled out of the project long before "wood was sawn", and the actual Hughes Aircraft Company designation was Hughes H-4 Hercules. It's a shame that Smith didn't also take the dome that previously housed the plane in Long Beach, as it was offered also (It's now a sound stage after sitting empty for some time). The present MMV building has about 1/4 the floor area necessary to adequately display this aircraft properly. But the plane is impressive! You just can't get far enough away to see it all.

Realizing there's not a large workforce (180 pilots according to airlinepilotcentral.com), but what are the numbers of expected retirements over the next several years?

Also, one thing that's not filled in on airlinepilotcentral.com is when the most junior Captain was hired. Assuming minimal furloughs, how long is the upgrade?

Lastly, do they use Captains as relief pilots or FOs?

A couple of points. One the company just bought two 742's and are looking for more. plus there are several other things in the wings.

Geez Dart, thanks for putting me down!;)

I'm currently an undergrad. doing a crew scheduling internship at Evergreen. I'll post answers to questions posted above later today.

I was there for 4 years, and there was always something "in the wings" but none of it ever made it out of the wings...

In Evergreens 30 year history they have ALWAYS furloughed. They will also tell you when you are hired that "we don't plan on furloughing people any more". It is how Dell Smith operates. The good news is, the furloughs are usually short duration...4-8 months. If you are a single guy and can use a vacation every other year or so, it is the perfect job.

I know they just got 2 more planes, and scheduled service to Japan....but I also remember when they got the Qantas contract how excited everyone was, and how many people they hired.

All I can say about "The Zone" is: Enjoy the ride. It is a great place to work, and you will see some things that no one else in this industry has seen. Have fun, and when the furlough comes...and it will...take the time off and go on holiday. Say hi to Bubba for me.

No prob!! I fly with bubba this week. Furloughs can happen at any company....looks like Green is the place to be....at the moment.
