Lets say you were being radar vectored for an ILS, you are not on any published segment of the approach and you are 500 feet below the MSA. If ATC tells you radar contact lost, is there any action required, do you just continue to fly your present heading and altitude? or should you climb and get yourself to published segment of the approach.
 
Depends on where (what vector) he had you on. If you are on theintercept vector, ask if you are at or above the MVA and if so ask tocontinue heading to join the LOC. If you are anywhere other thanthe intercept vector, you need to ask the controller. If hedoesn't know, climb back to the MSA and ask for permission to proceedto an IAF.

I had this happen going into PFN one night. I was on a vector forthe ILS14 and they had a radar failure. My instructions were"Radar contact lost, climb and maintain 3000, proceed direct LYNNE,cleared the ILS14 approach".

A controller isn't coing to leave you out in the cold if he loses youon radar assuming you are on an IFR flight plan and especially if youare close to teh ground.

I don't know that it's correct, but it's what I'd do.
