What airline still do a medical eval as part of the interview process? What does this consist of and is there anything that would result in them not hiring you? Just got a letter from FAA that says I get to keep my Medical for a problem uncovered with my EKG but was wondering how the airlines would see it.

Greetings. Delta still does. They send you to one of those occupational medicine places. I thought it was fairly thorough compared to a regular AME medical. I remember the doc had to take my BP 3 times before it was in the normal range. She said I was probably just nervous. I think I also did that rediculous sound proof booth for the hearing test but I cant remember. Then it was off from there to have the interview with the psychologist. Anyway hope this helps and good luck.

This day in age I can't believe airlines waste money on this stuff. If the guy has a medical then that should be it. No amount of screening is going to determine problems down the road. I bet Delta has the same percentage of guys on medical as say SWA who never screened (adjusted for pilot list age group).

And for the life of me I can't even fathom how much money AA tosses away on the medical department/facility they operate. That whole place should be the first to go in CH11.

Agreed, spot on.

Do you know if they are super strict on certain medical issues? For example disc issues, etc? I am assuming as long as you can function and pass the tests, you are ok and not disqualified?

I am not sure. But when you fill out the paper work, I am sure there is a place to mention any issues not to mention the fact that you already can hold a first class medical. I bet you will be fine, and would suspect they are more concerned with major issues. Good luck!

I imagine that should there be an accident resulting from a medical condition that should have been detected at these screenings, the airline could incur additional liability. That is why I'm surprised they don't get rid of the screening.
