I have my officer interview coming up in the next couple of weeks or so. I feel fairly prepared for it; I got the suit dry cleaned, shoes polished, hair cut, etc. I'm just wondering if anyone can give insight as to the types of questions I'll be asked. I just want to be able to walk in with some idea of how the interview will be conducted. Thanks for the help.

RS:

Covered extensively on this site. Do a search. Anything containing info from folks like vandal, airgator, contrail777 is all gold.

Interview will basically consist of a lot of HR type questions. What's your best/worst quality? Do you work well with others? Why do you want to work for this squadron?

You'll sit in a room with about 5-10 people or so (all the squadron bigwigs), and they will take turns asking you questions.

If your search is fruitless, PM me.

I'm sorry, I think I may have worded my question poorly. I will definitely do search on this site, but I'm not a guard applicant. I'm a civilian pilot candidate applying for OTS and going into active duty. The interview I was referring to is the 1v1 meeting done with a Major or Lt. Col, where they try to determine some of your personality traits I believe. Sorry I was unclear in the previous post. Thanks for the info Skyward.

I actually had my interview with an O-2. I think if the interviewing officer isn't an O-4 or above, they have to have the results of the interview approved by someone who is.

The guy who interviewed me was real cool, just wanted to get to know me. I'm not sure if this is the norm, but my recruiter gave me a list of questions to prepare answers for prior to the interview. I typed out answers to questions and my recruiter forwarded my responses to the Lt. who interviewed me. The interview was mostly spent disussing these questions.

Ragan:

Thanks for the clarification. Can't help ya much on that since I never went through that in my application process for the Reserve.

Beech:

Never heard of that kind of interview method. Pretty unique. I like their approach.

Interview

I have conducted some OTS interviews, and while there is no mandatory format/list of questions, there are some things I look for:

1. Why you want to be in the Air Force
2. Why will you be a good officer/aviator

Think objectively about your application, your strengths and weaknesses. For example, if your GPA is not great, but you had to work numerous jobs to pay for school, and for flying lessons, let him/her know.

Although I've never had anyone do this during an interview, blaming everyone else but yourself for everything bad that's happened in your life is probably NOT the best way to leave a good impression of yourself.

Pretty much, your qualifications, awards, recommendations, transcripts, and AFOQT scores set the tone...Showing up on time with a positive attitude also help make a great impression.

Good luck!

Thanks for all the replies, they really helped. I just had the interview and I think it went pretty well. Now it's just a matter of waiting for that January selection board.
