Just wondering if anyone knows of a flight department (either 91 or 135) in the southern New England/NYC area that would be looking for interns or summer employees? My college offers some, but they're all mostly in the midwest, and I'm looking for something that would let me stay at home for the summer. If it makes a difference I could manage to work anywhere in CT, or the Westchester area of NY, possibly PVD or or Western Massachusetts (like ORH maybe)

Also does anyone know of an online listing for internships? Doesn't necesarilly have to be region specific.

Thanks!

They're are plenty of internships in the area, you just have to find them. I found one at a Fortune 50 company based in White Plains. I did that for two summers and they created a full-time postion from it. My advice is to send out resumes requesting an internship to EVERY aircraft operator in the area. This is how I found two internships (I now work for the company I did my second internship with). I can tell you that many operators would love to have an intern to help out and it's the best way to meet contacts and learn about the industry.

In the past I know of people who have interned with Philip Morris, Westchester Air, Pfizer, Key Air, and Union Carbide.

E-mail your resume to me and I'll try to pass it around.

Fly Chicaga: The ones I remember off the top of my head are Airnet and NetJets (I'm not qualified for either as I lack a commercial and multi-engine, which are required for the flight majors to get internships there). There are a couple within the school. We used to have some with a couple regionals and majors, though I'm not sure who or whether they still exist. (One of our former instructors had one with TWA about 4 years ago that would have given him a job with 1500 hours if they hadn't been bought out) I'd have to go to the airport to get a copy of the current list. Most of them are within Ohio as I recall (I go to OU).

Mike1mc: I haven't even gotten a resume together yet as I just started looking and wasn't expecting that kind of response off the board. Thank you very much for the offer, I'll put one together in the next few days and email it to you.

Does anyone know where I can find a list of who has a flight department as opposed to using a fractional? Especially in the BDL/HFD area. Just so I know who to focus my efforts on.

Get your hands on a copy of the NBAA Member Directory (probably in your school library). This will list all companies, contact info, and fleet. I only had my PPL when I got my first intern, so don't worry about it. Take it one step at a time.
