If u had a choice between Road Runner and Earthlink? which would be the preferred choice?? thanks for any suggestions.

I use Road Runner, and haven't had many problems. Every once in awhile (maybe once every other month for an hour or two), the network will go down for some reason. But the nice thing is when you call their number for support - an actual human picks up on the 2nd or 3rd ring. No phone system to wade through - no wait, and they're there 24 hours. At least it's this way in Austin.

I hear Earthlink has some cool antispam features, but I use some tools to fight spam on my own, so it's not so interesting to me.

i've never used either, myself, but i know a few people who use road runner, and they all seem to love it. haven't heard much about earthlink, good or bad, though.

I've got Comcast at the time, it's pretty quick.

When I move to Houston for this CFI job, I'm going with RR I've heard all good about it.

Road Runner in San Diego works great, although we do have to press a few buttons to get to a live human for tech support. I've heard nothing specific about Earthlink, but I've heard and seen nothing but headaches with any form of DSL so far. Go with Cable over DSL any time you have a choice.

I've had Earthlink for the past six years, the first four with dial up and the last two with their DSL service (as soon as it was available in my area). When I got the box with the modem and stuff in the mail, I was up and running in fifteen minutes. I have since set up a network with all three of my computers and two printers with the DSL. In the two years I have used Earthlink's DSL, I have called them maybe twice with suspected network problems, both of which have been fixed in an hour or less.

I imagine one DSL service is pretty much like any other well established provider, so the extras and gimmicks are what set the good providers apart. I like Earthlink's deal because for your $49 a month, you get 20 hours of dial up access that you can use on the road. I have never had to pay a long distance fee at any hotel for accessing Earthlink, including in San Juan. The Spaminator feature diverts about 2/3 of the spam sent to me (generally, the less sophisticated spammers who use the same address more than once), leaving me with the job of disposing of about four or five junk emails a day. Yeah, AOL users, only four or five A DAY. Unlike Compuserve (Sprynet) or AOL (who I have used in the very distant past), I have never had a single billing problem with Earthlink.

If I sound like a commercial for Earthlink, just be aware that I never really think about my internet service - it just always works.

I agree, Earthlink is great. very good antispam and popup blockers.
It just works - all the time- like it should.

I've been on earthlink since sept 2002 and have been very pleased with it. decent speeds and i almost never get kicked off and seem to always be able to connect.

I used to have RoadRunner and am now forced into the dialup world with Earthlink. Earthlink's service has been great, but then so was RoadRunner's. I agree with KickSave, take cable over DSL. Smokin fast and bulletproof simple. I've used and continue to use my RoadRunner email address for probably 3 years now, and I get maybe 5 pieces of spam per week. And I've only been moderately careful with the use of my address. Go RoadRunner.

I've got RR, can't speak for earthlink, never had it, don't know anyone who does.
But RR rocks, I've had it for...at least 3 years now i think or thereabouts, they just recently added dial service.
You get 10 hours a month free, then it's a dollar an hour after that. They use aol dialups for their connections (which I haven't really had a problem with yet thankfully) so there's numbers all over the place.

Livin in FL, I got bellsouth DSL. It works like a dream, but you better inquire how far the DSL relay station (or whatever they call it) is from your location. I worked at a joint that had DSL; speeds were slower than dial-up modem.

But when it does work...you never go back to modem.
Nothin like downloading a whole CD in less than 1/2 hour!
