Curious, its been awhile for me. After reading some reports about the guys towing banners really low over jones beach NY a year or so ago it mentioned that they were intercepted by a NYPD chopper. Does anyone have any input as to whether a civilian police helicopter can legally intercept a civilian aircraft?

dude in todays "Homeland Security environment" yes a police helicopter (from New York City nonetheless) can intercept any aircraft deemed a public safety threat and deemed needed a law enforcement response

all legal, trust me

law enforcement is NOT taken a soft stance regarding suspsicious aircraft or low flyers

from a "legal argument" standpoint, it would appear to be "more illegal" for military to conduct intercepts and similar "police like action" in the domestic environment, rather than questioning if commissioned police aviators (US Customs, state police helicopter, etc) should be doing it.

If its a threat to national security then it should be by the military. I appreciate your input but prove to me where it is written that its legal for a police chopper to intercept.

dude

i dont have the energy tonight to look it up

who said "national security?"

if New York City police thinks a aircraft flying around is a threat to New York City property, and they want to send a helicopter up, they can

later

dude its discussed on p.1, under introduction "....increases the chances of being intercepted by military or law enforcement aircraft"

http://www.faa.gov/avr/afs/afs800/docs/tfrweb.pdf

this applies to TFR's but that gives you some legal background to start with

nobody said national security must be always miminally met, if you circle the state prison at low altitude for 2 hours, no F-16s are gonna meet you but the local state trooper helicopter may launch on you

if you want Supreme Court cases, I dont have that, try google, it does wonders

by the way, your profile says F-14 and "military"

First of all a$$munch, If you look at the other posts you will se they were back in 2001? Not that I have to explain $hit to your loser a$$ my current fiances son who IS in the guard and currentlz flying and was in the pool at Emery this was his profile. Since he no longer uses it I just kept the name and changed the stats. You obviously dont know much, maýzbe should go back to driving your purty king air and fuel truck. As far as owning anyones a$$ zou must be referring to your boyfriend. And yes I am ex Navy a$$hole!

Airspeed,

Did you decide to adopt your fiancée’s son's penchant for run-on sentences when you took over his account????

Patmack

Patmack, three years give me a break. East coast VF84. Yes I flew the buckeye to but didnt feel I have to list everything. Obviously you have not been in the military long enough or I have been out too long as I didnt know they were taking retards. I ask a simple question and instead of getting one mature answer I get a bunch of stupid remarks. Goes to show the generations are just getting worse. Grow up.

Yes it does. Any word on the CG?

I am so over the CG... now I am kinda' looking for anything that comes up. Pushing for TAR(FTS) out of SAN DOG.

Pat... spill it. Have not heard from her in a while.

PM it too me... I have a poker game tomorow... but maybe after. Was that your jet on the T line today? I was doing amaintance flights/turns all day and got nothing accomplished.

Is it good or bad news?

Yeah... 5K worth of damage... insurance paid for most. But get this, just brushed a curb TODAY and took a chunk out of the rim.

If I can't find a job in nine months. Hey, if it is bad or odd news about S... give me a buzz this evening. If not, just tell me tomorow.

Patmack

Take a look at the date on the post of 2001. I did not get on this board till the end of 03. VF101 was the rag I was in if you even know what that is. You list 40 aircraft you have flown but yet dont specify one. Not to cause a stir right?
