Anyone have any info on the Intel flight department? Couldn't find any aircraft listings in the NBAA guide and contact in the guide is a customer service type.

They do not have one. They have some managed WSCofD's that fly shuttle. Low pay and even worse work rules.

Are they an NBAA member? That surprises me if they are.

Do a search on this section for Intel Corporation. There was a thread a few weeks ago about them and their operation.

Typhoonpilot

AeroDynamics, Inc of Michigan manages Intel's corporate shuttle program, operating a handful of EMB-135s . . . yep, the WSCOD. $35k/yr-ish for 1st yr FO, $60k/yr-ish for 1st year CA. You're a "1st yr CA" whenever you upgrade . . . probably within a couple years. Schedule is M,W,F one week, T, Th the next . . . 14 hour days. No weekends, no holidays, no overnights.

Truth

Intel Shuttle is now run by ADI out of Michigan. EJM lost the contract in July of 2004. Starting F/O = $35K/yr. Starting CPT = $60K/yr. Long days but depending on your domicile you only fly 2-3 times/wk. Weekends and Holidays off. You'll never upgrade in Oregon/Washington/or California. Only chance is Arizona where there has been high turnover. Not the best corporate job but good if you want to be home every night.

I'll answer more questions as they come.

Good Luck!

Are they hiring?

Wasn't there some sort of CG issue related to flying the airplanes every day with no baggage and no ballast? Has that been resolved?

Also, I know in the past there were some morale issues-- still a problem?

I think they got the CG problems worked out. They have ballast available if necessary. The loads are high enough that they typically don't need it.

The only hiring I'm aware of is at the Arizona domicile (Phoenix - Williams/Gateway). I don't anyone will ever leave Washington or California. It's unlikely for Oregon, too.

Morale is at an all time low. Many reasons for this but primarily management.

Hope this helps.

Problems with the management co, management, or problems with Intel telling aviation companies how to run flight departments? It is my understanding that the Intel expects the flight department and crews to keep Intel type hours. A 16 hour day means nothing to them.

Problems with the CP and Assistant DO. EJM had required a maximum duty day of 14 hours. Intel went along. I think they still have that restriction. It can be extended with permission. But, you're right, in that Intel like to maintain as much control as possible.

For the Arizona operation, are they looking for people with EMB time and experience? Will they type newhires? What are the destinations from Williams Gateway? Are you just flying back and forth to San Jose and Portland all day? Can you give us an example of a typical schedule (number of sectors and destinations per day)? Thanks

This is a little dated, but I flew the Intel shuttle from SAC to SJC for nine months in the early 90s. We used two Bandits based in SAC. We departed at about 0600 in the morning for a round trip to SJC and then again in the afternoon, returning to SAC by about 1830-1900. Sometimes we had a mid-day shuttle as well. This was five days per week with weekends off. By Friday I was usually one tired puppy. Getting the occasional morning off was very nice and a good way to keep the fatigue from setting in.

TP

They went from the Bandits to Beech 1900C's and a Jetstream. They replaced the 1900's with EMB-135 RJ's and the Jetstream with a 1900D. They have six RJ's and got a 1900D for Olympia, WA. Strips too short for a RJ. The trips are between MHR, SJC, and HIO. The Oregon and Arizona pilots fly the same basic trips between their domiciles. OLM only flies between there and HIO. Still long days.

What are we talking about - 2-3 round trips per day (out and backs from Gateway) or do you fly a loop connecting the various locations? I hear the EMB-135 is fun to fly. Are they well equipped?

Very well equipped cockpit. Primus glass cockpit. Typically, you leave Arizona for SJC and then MHR. You'll sit for several hours and then reverse the trip. I believe there are still trips from IWA to HIO where the crew sits again and returns late in the afternoon.

Hope this helps.
