Interesting read. Just today I swapped aircraft with another crew and found both altimeters set well off the current setting, it appeared they had gone "cixlexsyd" and swapped the tenths and hundredths numbers somewhere between the ATIS, the pen, the pad, the checklist, and the Kollsman window. Not a big deal on a good VMC day.

Yet those examples highlighted are a bit alarming. Transpose just one digit during a period of low pressure (28.XX), by swapping the "8" with the usual "9" and you're 1000' too low.
