Does it matter for the six instrument approarches and the other stuff that goes along with it if they are in a single or a multi??? I have about 3 MEI's telling me that I have to do them in both aircraft. Which would be 12 every six months. I'm looking in 61.57 and trying to figure it out.

Props

Nope...

You can do your six approaches etc, in any airplane. It only has to be the same CATEGORY(airplane). If you do them only in a single-engine, it counts for both. If you decided to do them in a hot air balloon or glider, then it wouldn't count.

Tell your MEI friends that they are breaking the #1 rule in flight instructing, making up an answer. Unless they are 110% sure of their answer, they should say, "I'm not sure, but let's look it up together and find out". I've never had a student get mad at me for saying that.

P.S.-Maybe the MEI's are thinking of currency to carry passengers. The 3 T.O. and landings for passenger currency would need to be done in both the single and the multi.

Hi...

The 3 MEI's are wrong. Instrument currency is category specific, not class. If you satisfy the requirements of § 61.57(c)(1) in a single engine airplane, you are also current in multiengine airplanes.

Regards
