A friend of mine said he saw an Indy A319 parked near Garrett today just south of 25L at LAX, and then supposedly it left at around 1130am. I bet it was doing proving runs....

The problem they will have if they start that too early is lack of frequecy. Sure, they don't have many A319s yet, but the flight time between LAX and IAD is probably 5 hours minimum (maybe 6 westbound), and that would mean they could only have 2 or 3 roundtrips per day. TED or United will put 9 a day on the route and flush Indy out, simply because United has more than 100 A319/A320s. With the high fuel prices and long flight time enroute, the A319s will lose a lot of money on those routes. I think America West also flies A319s from IAD to LAX---and their fares are very low also. And, AA also flies the route. Not good for a start up. Even Alaska Airlines flies a 737-700 from DCA to LAX nonstop--although I believe the fares are higher on that one since they own that particular route.(DCA)

you are correct mine furor general (crappy german accent)

the 319s will be doing the direct iad/mco iad/tpa flights all winter until we get a few more to supply the frequency we need for the west coast. but yes we are going there and yes, they were proving runs.

Sheeesh. You really do know a lot about the competition/flights, etc. I agree that it would be better to get more cycles in during the early stages to generate more revenue. So, IAD-TPA/MCO makes a lot more sense - you can probably fill the airplane 5-6 times per day on those flights. I heard that JetBlue has started to rethink its transcon strategy a bit due to the low frequency of each route - why just fly 3 flights per day for those airplanes when you can fill them 7-8 times flying nearby.

I like the bright blue paint on the new A319s - looks nice.
