Industry Fragmentation -- projections

Some Boeing executive once predicted that the Airline Industry would fragment just like the hotels.

Here's what I see happening:

UAL/CAL -- premium service
AA -- be everything to everyone and fly everywhere
NWA/DAL -- right in the middle -- competing with low costs -- offering neither price nor service
US Air/LUV/JBLU -- Pure LCCs


Any conflicting views?

US Air = LCC not, not yet.

UAL/CAL -- premium service

CAL I can see, but UAL and premium no way. Flew with 2 pilots recently that flew UAL full fare to South America and Hawaii respectively, and had very negative comments about the Agents and F/A's and the level of service.

Any airline that has CRJ200,700 and/or ERJ 135,145 can not be called a premium service. God how I hate to ride 2 or 3 hours on a crj. Know if they switched to all ERJ 170,190 then maybe.
