Lets say the last revision to the approach (as per the plate) was 11/01, and your data card is dated 7/03. Technically this isnt a current GPS, but can it be used for an approach you know it IS current for?
I dont have my regs in front of me but I seem to remember a clause that gives the pilot some control if they know the card reflects the same data as the plate.
The card that is dated 07/03 contains all the data that is current for that time period. If the plate is dated 11/01, then the approach has not changed since then and the data that is current on the card will be the same as the approach.
As stated by avbug and someone else, you can use GPS in lieu of the ADF, however, you would have to load the identifier for the NDB in the GPS, NOT the ILS approach. If you load the approach only then you will have no way to identify the actual NDB.
I notice that the approach has a LOM that is also the IAF. I am pretty positive that this is the reason that an ADF is required. It has to be used to identify the IAF.
How many times have you made an approach to this airport and had to use an ADF to find the IAF? Probably never. You probably get vectors. Someday you might lose comms, or be required to use the ADF to find the IAF, then you need an ADF to fly the approach. If this happens, you have a GPS with a current card that allows you to perform this maneuver. By having the current GPS, you have satisfied the requirements for having an ADF for the approach. It doesn't matter if the GPS is dialed into the ADF during the approach.
Now, if you go in to fly the approach, dial in the ILS approach so that you can have great situational awareness. If you lose comms, be prepared to use the GPS as an ADF if you need to use the LOM for the IAF.
