Hey Guys and Gals,
I have an interview coming up towards the end of February and just wondered if any of my fellow pilots might have built time or experienced the interview process???
Any info woulfd be great:) thanks for your time!
 
IFTA interview

I met with Fred Hagihara for lunch one time. I was set for an interview several months later, but canceled because I took another job. I have a friend who worked there for a few years and who worked for IFTA's ancestor, ATCA in Goodyear, so I have a little knowledge about the place.

For one thing, IFTA is a first-class operation, with beautiful facilities and excellent equipment. You should be prepared for a thorough interview and a flight in a Bonanza. The place did not impress me as being altogether intense, as is IASCO in Napa. You'll find that Fred is an alright guy.

Of course, you know that first-year pay starts at about $30K, with excellent benefits.

From what I saw and what I heard, IFTA is a good place to work. I would have liked to have worked there if it had worked out.

I'm still very blown away by the amount of info that comes from all of you great folks, it makes looking for the all elusive position....so much easier to find. I have great respect for my follow pilots and the breadth of knowledge available here:):)

IFTA interviews

You're welcome, guys. Keep me updated. I'm pretty sure that you'll be impressed - I sure was.
 
The instructor candidate profile that the Japanese tend to look for are:
(1) Willing and able to adapt to JCAB (Japanese FAA) standard flight training procedures
(2) Long term potential – not just waiting for a line flying job
(3) Enough self discipline to go through a thorough but fair training program

Well it was ugly in the oral...was pretty well prepared but felt like I was up against my first DPE!lol
Oh well I learned a lot and hope the next one will be better!

The interview went all right, but I made some procedural errors on the flight...live-n-learn.

I posted a reply before this one, but it didn't work
 
Iasco is hiring up in Napa basically same job, same equipment little more pay (40k a year) looking for up to 4 more and interview is much easier

I was there briefly about twelve years ago. Things can change in that time, but beware! The place and environment are formidable.

I had a more positive read on IFTA. A fine, similar facility is ATCA in Phoenix. I interviewed there and had something like three friends who instructed there.
 
i used to work for ifta, i now work for iasco and i think a lot of things have changed. The person who was chief then, i still here stories about. The guy we have now is great, leaves us alone just do our jobs and go home besides we are "exempt" employees if we don't have anything to do we go home, same pay so it doesn't matter ........my average work day is 5-6 hours faciclity isn't as nice but planes are better we have A/C and the barons are only a year old. it does require more hours to get the job so they are looking for career instructors or at least not leaving right away but with the respect we get here and the usually easy schedule it makes instructing an ok job. Ifta was a great place i'd go back but i like the area up here a lot more (my 2 cents)

Are we talking about Napa? Or Redding? I was in Napa, and I thought the facility was gorgeous and state-of-the-art.

No more King Airs? Things really have changed.
 
yes in Napa they are nice but Iftas' were newer and a little more modern. They got rid of the king airs about a year ago to save money and JCAB back in japan is phasing them out too so king airs won't be used anywhere soon.

this is tall guy who went through IPIT with you at IFTA. so how is everything? enjoying IASCO?
things are moving around here. many IPs you know left to get an airline job, infact we lost five in two months and losing one more in May. we start to see new IPs doing training here frequently. you should come down to have lunch one of these days.
BTW, we have new web site now. http://www.ifta.aero.

iasco's going great, right now i have brand new students and they are a lot of work but overall it's not a bad place at least the weather's nice. and there is a rumor of a raise but we'll see if that comes true.
I knew a lot of guys were leaving but i don't think you'll have any problem finding people to replace them, plenty of starving cfi's out there . You'll have to come up here i won't be doing any long cross country flights for a while ......but i'll be here.
