Hi folks,

I'm an upcoming new hire at NetJets and was wondering what steps I should take to gain access to the Union message board and ensure that I become a member of the 1108.

I imagine they come and talk to you in class (I start on the 11th), but that ain't true for the Local 747, so my cynicism makes me try to pre-empt the process now that I'm starting here. Plus, since I'm already a Teamster, I want to make certain I don't get hit with the initiation fee twice.

Is there anything else I need to do to make certain things are taken care of? Or does it really just happen once I start and I shouldn't worry about it?

You get a full day with the union and will be signed up then. You will meet any leadership in town.
The staff at 1108 will make sure you are not charged twice.

Welcome to NetJets

Welcome!

Local 1108 is Teamsters by association only. It's a very different animal from 747. Truly, you won't even recognize it.

The folks from 1108 will definitely be coming to your ground school to welcome you and give you information about signing onto the union web site, about the organization, and about the new contract.

Plus, since I'm already a Teamster, I want to make certain I don't get hit with the initiation fee twice.
I'm about 99% sure you'll be exempt because of that, but they'll be able to tell you for sure.

Sit back and relax; you'll be taken care of. You're gonna love 1108!

There isn't really much you can do to prepare for NetJets training, whether it be indoc, airplane training, or union issues. The company and union will get you started on the right track. Just enjoy the next week and a half and be ready to go on the 11th. Welcome!

Came over from local 747 also - this is a totally different animal. You should be able to get a letter from your local showing that you paid the initiation fee. You can submit it with your local 1108 app and you won't get charged again.

The official name of the "note" you need to request is a withdraw card, it is the same size as a union card, the 747 will check to make sure you are current with your dues then send it to you.

Once you send it to the 1108, they will stop taking the initiation fee out of your paycheck and will refund any of the fee they already took out by mistake. I would request the withdraw card the last day you work, it took a week or so for the 747 to send me the card when I had to do it.

You get about two hours with the union...which is fine. You will get the info needed to join the board during that meeting.

Welcome! You are in a good place!

Strikefinder - if you are transferring in from a different Teamsters local, just let the union rep that you'll see during indoc know. I came from 747 also and while I forget all of the details, I did not have to pay the full initiation fee, just a small service fee to transfer my membership.

Congratulations on the career move, SF! Should you have any questions there are plenty of volunteers ready to help from P2P reps, to committees like uniforms, scheduling, training, etc. Plus, there's always a Steward on Duty (SOD) in CMH. Best Wishes for a smooth transition! :)

Gentlemen, I'm glad to hear there's a transfer system in place from Local to Local, but I personally wish that the NJ pilots could keep ALL of their union dues in house under their own control. Considering that 1108 is a unique Local that owes little, if any, of their success to IBT, what is to be gained by staying in Teamsters? Do more with your dues.

If the current method isn't meeting your needs, give it the boot! NJW

There is a rumor that all the money will be kept local....
