Alright guys, what can I expect to pay either an IA or a mechanic for a annual inspection on a light acft like a 172 or Beech sport? The aircraft are fairly good condition with out any unforseen major work required.....

My experience is all military and airline stuff so this is new to me on the GA side......

$60-65 per hour labor, plus parts. Figure 8-12 man hours for a C-172 that is good shape. Also figure in an oil change while you're at it.

If this is your first annual as an owner, I highly recomend you find a shop that will allow you to assist, by doing all the owner permited "preventive manitince" under Pt 43, and observeing the actuall inspection by the IA. It won't save you any money since you will need a lot of help (it may even cost extra). But what you will learn about your airplane will be imensely valuable down the road.
