Hey guys,

I am looking for a job that involves flying for this summer. I am willing to do anything, banners, SAR, spotting. I am really low time, but I have great recomendations from my CFI's. I live in Utah right now, but if you guys know of any openings it would be great if you could give me some information on them. I am looking for something on the West coast or southwest region. Thanks a bunch guys-

Looks like you have you CFI ticket... start pounding on doors. Go to OK3, Conerstone, Gold Seal, American Aviation, G&B Aircraft, Advantage Aviation, K&W Aviation, Ogden Jet center.... dude, the list just goes on in the SLC area. I searched HARD there about a year and a half ago, when movement was still pretty slow in the industry and still managed to land a gig. If you don't have any luck, I have mentioned to others about banner towing. Great way to build a lot of time in a short period. Just make sure you find a decent employer.

Good luck.

When I was stationed at Hill AFB we used to skydive at a couple of drop zones that always had a need for pilots. One drop zone was in Cedar Valley (just south of town) the other was at a small field in town.

They wouldn't pay much but typically would hire someone with your qualifications. You could easily double your flight time over the summer.

Jim, waiting for recall in MSP

The DZ in Cedar Valley moved to Tooelle, and yes, they're still killing people and breaking down regularly.

I've checked the drop zones around the area also. One of the two places up in Ogden require 750tt due to insurance. Not sure about the other. The place in Tooele sorta told me to get lost (but in a nice way! :) )

Didn't know they were that bad... I heard they got rid of the DC3 and picked up a C90.

The job won't come looking for you; you have to look for it. Print some resumes, design a cover letter that is adaptable for different positions, and start sending them out to companies. Be sure to address each cover letter by name. Hand-deliver resumes with cover letters to any operator that is within driving distance. Keep track of the companies that you have contacted, follow up with them and follow up again.

Bear in mind that you will be competing with large numbers of pilots with similar qualifications and better. Also bear in mind that limiting your geographical area will limit your opportunities.

Getting a pilot job, even for higher-timers with tons of experience, is a lot of hard work. Once again, contrary to what some flight schools tell people, the jobs don't come looking for you. Cultivating contacts will be helpful. If you are persistent but polite, your efforts will pay off. Good luck with your job search.

skydive moab might be looking http://www.skydivemoab.com/ hand deliver a resume, wear jeans and a t-shirt, be a friendly guy the tamdem instructors will get along with, don't be gods gift to aviation and you might get a job flying their 206. Once you reach 500 hours there are plenty of 135 vfr operators in utah that will hire you, especially with a cfi. If you don't know where to start looking for vfr 135 stuff, drop a post or pm and I'll point you in the right direction.

I can't help you in Utah, if you come up to the upper Northeast (Maine)I could point you in a few directions.

Goodluck, I concur with the DZ option, I got my first job flying jumpers and it was a great way to build my time up.

Goodluck,

Skydive Moab is run by a great bunch! Very cool people. A little word of advice, though.....don't accept any challenge to a drinking contest from the DZO. :D

Utah=mormon=me=no (alcohol) drinking contests;) listerine, yes....
Oh, come on now.... I've seen some of you guys put a few of em down....!!!

can't you drink if you are the only mormon there?

Jump piloting is fun and challenging, but be ready to leave the plane if a jumper rips the tail off.

Haven't you ever heard that joke 'when does a mormon drink on a boat?'

"When they are the only mormon."

Can't remember how the joke/saying went, but it's something like:

"If you invite one mormon over, he's gonna drink all your beer. If you invite TWO mormons over, they'll watch eachother and make sure the other drinks NONE of your beer!"

All in good fun guys! :)

Sorry guys. I'm pretty good about takin' a mormon joke here and there, but I'm just not laughing at this one.
