I need some advice from you experienced guys who might have been through this already. I am a young pilot with a wife and a baby on the way and no current full time job. I've only done a few contract flights in a Lear Jet.
I have a couple of options but I am not sure which one would be the best.
Like many of you my fellow pilots I am not seeking a job to fly a new shinny jet for peanuts, altough like many of you I am working on getting my 1000 turbine PIC. My wife is currently working making over 40K a year, but the baby is due in december so she is going to stop working in october which mean I have to take full income responsability. But as many of you know 2500TT pilots arent to lucky at making enough money to support the family. Anyways, I have a couple of offers

#1 Stay in the DFW area and Fly freight in an Aerostar on weekdays, and fly some contract in a Lear on the weekends for $300 per day. But as many of you know contract flying is not a sure thing, I might fly on a weekend and i might not. There is a small possibility of full time employment with the contract deal but as always they promise and they usually dont come through.

#2 Relocate to Mobile AL, fly captain in citation 1 for 28K a year and a 2 year training contract. Insurance and all. This is for a 135 ops.

#3 Accept a job with PINNACLE AIR SERVICES in springdale arkansa in the right seat of a Lear 31 making 35K a year, good benefits, relocate to NW arkansa. But I have a couple of friends that got fired from there and I've heard that they have a 100% turn over.

Hey guys any input is greatly appreciated, I really dont know what to do. Like I said many of you guys have already been through a dilema like this. So I figured I get some advice as to what I should do. Thanks you guys

What is the rush? The baby is everything. Although health insurance is critical.

#3 by your own description is not applicable.

#2 Might be good. Low pay?

#1. Looks stable while you search for other options.

good point

I actually feel like calling the people in Mobile and asking them "are you for real???? 24K a year? why so low???" lets see what answer they give me.

My wife and I are trying desperatly (but so far unsucessfully) to start out family, but cannot. Which do you think WE would choose?
Do what's best for you and make sure it counts.

Jetride has a base in Dallas and citation shares.

I know, but they both require and ATP and since I am under 23 I cant get one just yet. Atleast not for a couple of more months. 10 to be exact.

A freind took his ATP early with the condition that when he turned 23 the ATP would go active.

Check with your FSDO and the regs.

Yep

First off, I think the Citation insurance underwriter is going to require more than 2500TT. You say you have some SIC time. How much JET PIC time do you have? Part 135 will require an ATP.

Second, Pinnacle is a bottomfeeder operation. They advertise nearly every month on 350 for flight crew. To say they are A-Holes would be an understatement.

Third, Multiengine PIC is more important than a couple hours SIC in Lear 24. While you are hauling freight, study and pass your ATP written and then send out the resumes. You will find that the regionals will give you favorable look as you will be currently flying freight full time, building your multi PIC time and you have an ATP written (required by all regionals).

2500 hours is not a bad number. I got my current G200 SIC job with 2500. But then I had 1300 hours SIC in Lears, Hawkers and Citations.

Take the freight job full time until something else better comes along. And tend bar on the weekends.

Get a job, you bum. Good luck!!

Thank you for the advice my friend, I really appreciate it....I'm still working on getting the freight job. Hopefully I can get it, but the DO at the freight company here is a total nutcase!!!

Atp

While your wife is supporting you, and you are waiting for the phone to ring, now would be a good time to order that KING ATP course. You can have the written done by next week.

Get busy!!
