Southwest Flight 1513, a Boeing 737 bound for Ft. Lauderdale, that had just departed form the airport was forced to return and landed at 7:23 a.m. according to Holly Baker, a Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman. A cargo bay fire warning light was triggered, Baker said.
Rescue companies and the Chicago Fire Department stood by as a precaution, said Baker.
"It turned out there was no fire whatsoever," said Baker. "The flight landed safely without incident," Baker said.
It was unclear immediately what cause the light to go on.
According to City Department of Aviation spokeswoman Wendy Abrams, the Fire Department secured the scene at 7:54 a.m., and there were no injuries. The aircraft taxied to gate B10, and passengers exited the plane.
"The passengers deplaned and they took other flights," Abrams said.
