tell me some interesting pilot/aviation stories

I went to a pilot type camp. We went to an ARTCC, a few different museum's an airshow and an 172 ride. It was about 5 days long. It was pretty cool for a bunch of 16 year olds.

For some reason the "Dorky pilot" thread is ringing in my head.

Tacks.

I was in Domodedovo last week and my co-pilot got thrown in a police car for 20 tense minutes on the ramp at FERAS while they tried to figure out how to erase the picture of the IL 154 he took. It was a digital camera and I think it threw them off a little.

Does that count?

I graduated ERAU PRC in 1990.

When I got there in 1986 the parking lot wasn't paved. To a snot nosed kid from LA it felt like pilot camp.

kewl u fly to domodedovo
y they don allow pix of airplanes at all

where is domodevo yada yada yada? He should have taken a picture of the cops and him shaking hands afterwards...oh wait, they probably wouldn't have liked that either!

Actually, I went to Aviation Challenge in Huntsville (it's just down the road from Space Camp. It was run military-style. We even had an E and E on the last night. Pretty cool. I still have the T-shirt. And that was in 96 I think. Dooooork!

The EAA runs one called the "Air Academy." They have their own lodge located right on Pioneer Airport grounds next to the museum. it runs every July just before the big Oshkosh show. I think it goes for 2-3 weeks and covers everything from Warbird restoration to building a Glasair homebuilt. Its geared for kids 14-18. So yes, there is a real pilot camp.

It still wasn't paved when I went to work there in 1988. The sim lab was in a prefab housing-type building. That, too, felt like pilot camp.

They moved the sim lab across the field the next year, which was a pain because you had to drive around the field to meet students for sim activities. I recall that as I was leaving in 1991 they had started to move the entire flight line across the field to the sim lab location.

Memories.

Heh, I sort of remember all that.

I guess by the time you got there I had bailed out of the flight program and became a management student. I never had any reason to visit the flight line after 1987.

Still I wonder if I ever bumped into you. Drop me a PM if you'd like to compare names and dates.

Were you there too?

I thought that was just between me and Bobby!!

Hey, this thread is about flying stories, not Border Town stories.

Hmm..... I just can't think of anything witty to say.:o

While flying a Piper cheyenne at FL200 this afternoon, I saw
3 SU-30 MKIs at my 11 o clock, about 3 miles, with 90 aspect
across my flight path.

All 3 turned into me, lead passing directly under me, 2 and 3 passing
off my right wing.

Maybe they were practicing on me, I was easily within range for a head on IR shot, and well within gun range too.
