It's generally agreed that straight 135 jobs are terrible- I know mine were- and straight 91 jobs are a lot better- I know mine is.

What about jobs that combine 91 ops for the owner and 135 ops for other customers? I've never had a job that combined the two. Are they usually closer to the 91 side, or the 135 side, or is there a wide spectrum?

very wide spectrum

your combo 91/135 ops solely depends on how you are staffed. 2 pilots is pure hell, 3 is much better.

Nothing better than spending every weekend at the owners vacation homes and then doing pimped out charters all week!...with 2 pilots...

they all start out as "we will keep it under control, not burn you out".....yeah right.

 .

been there, done that, shoot myself before doing it again.

I have flown 91 and 135 but not at the same time.
I start my new job in a couple of weeks and it is 91/135 combined. They have 13-15 pilots or so, but they have a mix of props and jets, so when the jets go out, the pilot pool shrinks by two.
I was told the mix is leaning more towards 91, but there is still alot of 135 too.

Totally depends on the operation... Some are great (mine seems to be so far...) others are hell.

I worked as a hangar rat for a 91/135 operator. They actually had their own 135 cert, and they had some deal where the a/c owner chartered the a/c from the charter company, blah blah blah. I think the actual term is 'tax loophole'. Anyway, they did very little 135 work outside of the owners needs, and what they did do was for other 91 operators in the area that needed extra lift now and then.

Wouldn't that be 135?

Nope. Lease agreement between two aircraft owners. Just be sure and have it blessed by your local FSDO. Keep it clean. It can go down a slippery slope.

It is 135. They get chartered by the local flight departments.
