Maybe it's a long shot with 3200 total and 1000 121 tubine pic... But what's the best way to go about actually getting a call back for an interview... I have my stuff in at AWA for about three months now but no letters or anything just that they got my resume. Too soon to send it out again? Or is it going to require someone walking it in for me?

Updating

You have good quals, including the magic 1000 hours of turbine PIC, and I assume you're flying the line and building time. I don't think it's too soon to update. I would if I were you. Assuming, of course, that they're hiring.

By any chance are you Mesa meat? AWA has picked up plenty of Mesa pilots throughout the years.

Good luck with your efforts.

maybe a better question to ask is how do I get an application from AWA without knowing someone who works there? One of my friends who actually made it to the WIA conference got an app and what she had to say about my chances of getting one with out knowing someone there was not too encouraging...

Obtaining an app

Maybe the process has changed since I was looking years ago, but can't you just write to H.R. with a self-addressed stamped envelope and request the form?

I didn't know a soul within any of the airlines to which I applied and I received applications on request, including one from AWA.

Try it. Once more, best of luck with your efforts.

Just be happy that you are a captain flying turbine equipment accuring PIC, and seniority. You maybe jumping out of the frying pan into the fire. Air Whisk is still connected at the hip to the sinking UAL. Fly Safe

Correction

I thought Bumble Bee meant AW in Phoenix, not Air Wisc.

I don't recall applying to Air Wisc when I was seeking regional jobs. So, I never obtained an app from them.

I would still write them and request a form, though. But Air Wisc has always been desirable, and competitive.

I sent my stuff out to America West and requested an application... Still waiting on that one... I am ready to update as soon as I get a few days off.
I am a little apprehensive about Air Wisconsin, ACA, and Skywest... I know several people in management and one of the owners at Air Wisconsin and it seems to me that they are also a little concerned.

Thanks for your input!

AWA as far as I know has not opened an application window since 1999.

They open a window to send your resume then inturn send you an app to send back before the window closes.

I have been on file since April of 1999 and they send me requests to update to keep my application active. I have heard nothing as of yet. For those that sent stuff recently, has a new window opened? If not, no telling you will get anything from them.

Good Luck.

Right now AWA is not hiring. They were going like crazy from about Nov. 2002 until last month. They were doing interviews every Tues. and Thurs. I know one guy who got hired a month or so ago who got a call from hiring telling him that he most likely wouldn't see a class until 2004. The word is that training is shut off until then. But as in all business decisions, this could change at any minute. The Chief Pilot will tell you "If you don't like the way things are around here, just wait 15 minutes"

The gulf war had a bit to do with it. They have cut back flying since the loads have dropped. With the new Government aid package, an end to the war and even a small upturn in the economy, things could resume. And if United dies, (which I doubt)we won't be the only ones hiring.

As for getting an app, the first classes last Dec. were people who were hired a while ago and have been swimming in the pool. In January they had their first true "New Hire" class. It was full of people with "pull" and a few National guys with recomemdations. After that they looked at people with recomemdations. without one you really have to have some time. AWA really got burned in the past from people who got hired and then took off after training to go somewhere else. Someone with a rec. is more likely to stay (I won't recomend someone unless they give me their word that they are going to stay) as are relatives of AWA pilots. I had an app in from the '99 window but I know that some of the people hired recently were recent apps. They may not be accepting new apps. at the moment but I would keep updating as the gates could open again if the flying picks up for any reason. I know they were short on Airbus F/Os before the flying cutback.
