I am a CFI in the Tampa Bay area, Florida, 4100 Total, 1100 Multi, ATP.

My goal eventually is a good Charter company flying internationally, Air-Ambulance, Freight, or the Fractionals.

When I had the minimums to apply at Netjets / Execjets (my first choice that time), 9-11 put those dreams to an abrupt hold.

I just thought to stay current and wait for the opportunity to come. There were 3 air-ambulance operators at the field, but all except one went out of business. Even though lots of turboprops and jets fly into our field (KPIE), I am not aware of any one located right here. I have talked to the 3 FBO's on the field without any leads. Airfields in the Tampa Bay area seem not to promise more, except maybe KTPA.

In 2002, I was able to land a 135 job in the Caribbean, but personal and practical issues with that operator made me turn down that job.

Anyway, I see that things are starting to pick up. I applied at many 135 operators, mostly freight and air ambulance, piston, turboprop and jet positions. I got some leads, but still no immediate results. I believe that my relative high time goes against me for some operators that prefer to employ the low timer (airnet, flight express, ...). It also seems to me that operators prefere local people that are in the area already.
I am almost at the point to award a good commission to someone leading me to a King Air position or any t/prop / jet outfit. I also thinking about getting typed typed in a Lear or Citation. What about King Air simulator training? It seems that the better operators still have plenty of applicants to chose someone with a type rating and currency on the particular aircrafts. Ideas of getting myself typed in a 727 or 737 and then hopefully get hired in Asia are crossing my mind. 737-type would be useful for future employment at Southwest, if unable to get a job there.

Students at the flight school are hard to come by lately. Anyway I look at it, I will lose money, either with a loss of income due to no business or fees paying for a specific type.

Do I need just more patience hoping to get picked up at a night cargo operator? Or should I proceed to get myself training in an advanced aircraft? I could just sign up at a PFT company, but that is against my principles.

One more thing is that I am not a US citizen yet. I am able to apply this year, but it will take some time to get it done. I believe this is my dilemma getting turned down for an interview at any place having aircrafts equal/greater than the 12500 lb training limit because of the FBI checks that can take up to 45 days for US-residents.

Am I the only one here? Please , any input will help, thanks.

If you don't care where you moved to, try Western Air Express (www.westernairexpress.com) I used to work for them a while ago. Not a great company, but you'd be building more valuable multi-engine turbine time. They're based in Boise, ID. If you're interested, send me a PM and I'll put you in touch with the chief pilot (he's a friend of mine.) They operate Metros and C402s. Maybe your twin Cessna time could help you.

Good Luck.

On the aviation employment board there is a post for DeltaAirElite, Dleta's frac. owner program, loooking for pilots with about your time...looks like they have some good a/c. Don't know anything about them but check it out...it is also a lot closer to TPA as well I bet. www.airelite.com

First Officer

Pilots interested in applying for a First Officer position with Delta AirElite must meet these minimum qualifications:

  • Minimum qualifications for First Officer's are 2000 hours total time including 1000 PIC fixed wing, 200 hours multi-engine fixed wing.
  • Airline Transport Pilot (ATP).
If you meet these qualifications and are interested in this position, please email your resume to [email protected]. No phone calls please.

Let's see...

...exacly what visa do you have? If you have a current visa that permits you to work in the US legally then I might have some leads for you.

I do have a GREEN CARD, which is permanent resident status. This has nothing to do with a visa anymore.

In other words, whenever I come back to the USA from a foreign country, I follow the line of US-Citizen AND Residents, not the visitors.
Also, my green card is all I have to show at customs, nothing else.

I need my passport to enter any other country, but not the USA.

Thanks in advance for job leads.

Southern Air Systems, based at Raytheon TPA. Keep bugging them until they hire you. You'll fly 800 hrs a year in Merlins, G1s, Cheyennes, Hawkers, Beechjets, MU-300s, CE-650s, lots of other stuff. I think they have 30 airplanes.

There is a King Air 200 at PIE, Execujet just got it in the last couple of months.

Corporate jobs go to the candidate who is known to the CP. Meet every pilot you can for every company you can. Hang out at the airport and get to know guys who have the job that you want. They will get you hired after they get to know and trust you.

It seems like most companies hire like this:
CP- "Hey we just got another airplane. Anyone know anybody who we can get to fly it?"
Capt. Bob- "My buddy Steve isn't happy at Scary Charter Service."
Cp- "Call 'em, see if he can be in school on Monday."

I know that sounds funny, but it's happened to me twice...
Good luck. Don't give up, and don't stop flying!

I decided to write a CHECK of $200.00 to the person helping me actively to find any acceptable T/Prop/Jet Position.

Would that be PFH (Pay For Hiring?).

This is not I joke ... please PM me.

Thanks again.
