I am a 42 year old successful pharmaceutical sales representative contemplating a first officer training program at Pan Am Academy.
Is there anyone out there that has succeeded or not-succeeded in changing careers and landing a job with a regional airline at my age?
Thanks for any input.

Your not to old at 42, however, unless you can't live unless your a professional pilot, I recommend you stay where you are and fly on the side for fun.

Aviation is a very demanding and frustrating career. You will make far more money selling pharmacueuticals than you will flying an aircraft.

You'll also keep you family together a lot longer.

If, you want to work for $1200-2000 per month for the next 5+ years then go into aviation.

If you really can't do without it, DO IT!
Otherwise, just have fun with it and save yourself a lot of money.

Don't believe the hype of the flight schools. They just want to take your money.

Good luck.

Pay attention to what he said, Sidney.

Why give up a good salary and family stability to live on squat wages for the next 10 to 15 years?

If you were twenty, with no family and parents who will support you, then I think it is still doable. Otherwise fly for fun, like I should have done.

If your heart's in it, then do it. Life's too short to not do what you can. Just remember to enjoy every step of the way, not just focus on the regional jet job, which may or may not materialize as you want.
