Quick question to anyone who might have some insight

I have a 135 slot and plan on guard bumming after I get back from all my training. How much on average does a 1LT usually make doing this. My wife is a teacher so my family will have some income, but I am just curious if I can make enough money guard buming to help support us.

Thanks

Guard Pay !!!!

As as a First Lieutenant, your drill pay should be $455.00 not including flight pay... If you troff (bumming) you can average $110.00 plus flight pay each day...

$2200.00 five days per week
$455.00 drill pay
$300.00 flight pay

$2955.00 Monthly (Ball Park)

I would say that you could help out with that income.. My wife is also a teacher and I am in the process of getting a class date in a reserve squadron flying buffs. Congratulations and good luck...

Call a guard unit and ask a 2nd LT...They would know the real answer. It all depends on what is going on in the world and in your unit..many of my buds are are looking for 2nd jobs in addition to bumming. Depends on your financial/family status.

I recently bummed for 1 1/2 years after pilot training...but I was the ONLY bum (no pun intended :D ). I was the income earner in my family and we had what I would consider to be an abundunce of money (yes, about $3000 a month). My unit now has 9 CP bums who are all trying to get what they can...and it is very difficult for them. One of them is now working at Home Depot to make ends meet. In short, take into consideration how many sorites your unit flies a day, how many trips your unit takes a month, and how many bums you are in competition with. GOOD LUCK!!

PUKE

Thanks to everyone for the info. I know it is a lot harder to bum right now because of the airline layoffs, but hopefully when I get back from upt that will be over with and thier will be a lot of flight time up for grabs.

Thanks again
