Yeah

I have two planes right now. A 152 Aerobat and a 172 seaplane. If you like taildraggers, I Cessna 120 or 140 can be had for the price of a 150 and they are a kick to fly...I used to have a 120.

Was just up yesterday enjoying the late summer weather and landing on the grass beside the runway.

Keeps you humble and reminds you why you liked flying in the first place.

One of the best all around light airplanes ever: The Cessna 182. Does everything (IFR/Cruise/haul a lot/roomy) pretty well, and the early to mid 60's are affordable. I think '62 was the first swept tail...
 
I own a Conquest II (business, family vacations etc.) and a Husky.
I love the Husky, what a blast.

-150 or -170?!?! Sounds like a choice between a 1970 Dodge Dart and a 1969 Camaro... ! go with the -170 if you can afford it. Nostalgia, very nice two people with lots of bags plane (or 4 skinny people), smooth 6 cyl engine... nice!

Turbo 150

Toy Soldier--is there a picture of your a/c in Rod Machado's PP Manual? ;)


(There is a picture in that book - doctored of cours,lol--of a c150 with what looks like a B737 engine strapped on the upper wing)

--increases the speed but probably kills useful load and range a bit...
 
I'm saving for a Cirrus SR22... I'm 30 no wife no kids with a home that will be paid off inabout 2 more years. I should be good to go then ;) so ask me then.

Why don't you save about $100- 200 g's and build an RV-10?!

Once these things get rolling, I bet you could buy one built for ~$150,000. Still cheaper than any Cirrus product.
Best of all, you can do almost all your own maintenance, even if you buy it built.
 
Sexy a/c flywithastick

Problem with building my own is TIME! I work full time as an I.T. Manager and run my own consulting biz which takes most of my time. Even my time flying now is for biz purposes. :( I live in Oregon but all my clients are in Seattle, flying beats driving 4 hours by far... But I will research the plane thanx for the lead.
 
don't rent...own

mine is a 73 Aerobat with the nicest paint...just majored the engine (myself) with 4 new ECI titans and a 0 time crank...new mags/carb/vac pump/starter...everything is new except for the alternator.

in my opinion (for what it's worth) own it!! you will learn allot more than if you rent some FBO's flying piece of trash.

I own 2 airplaned: A Cessna 180 on floats in the summer and wheel skis in the winter; and a Citabria. Am in the process of rebuilding the Citabria engine myself (under appropriate supervision, of course) Just have to get the valve train back together and fabricate new baffling and it's ready to go back in the airplane. The trouble is, it's always more fun to go flying in the airplane that is in one piece than to work on the one that is in many pieces.
