Well, you'll probably need to have an ATP which requires at least 1500 TT. Aside from that, you'll need lots of PIC time, and at least 1000 hrs. of it must be in turbines.

If you're talking competitive, on average you'll need around 3000 TT and 1500 - 2000 turbine PIC with a few letters of recommendation from pilots currently flying with them. It's a lot of who-you-know at the major legacy carriers along with FedEx and UPS, etc.

I got 747-400 right seat with 2800TT, 2200 Jet PIC, 1000 Multi Jet pic. I'm the lowest time guy I know to get that position. Training was EXTREAMLY tough for me.

1000 TT 100 multi will get you on at Skywest, American Eagle and Mesa. Expressjet's mins are 500 and 100 but realistically 800 with 150.

When I saw the thread title, that was exactly what I was going to say. Way to beat me to it.

I'd say your best bet is to take whatever their stated minimums are, and double them. That might get you a shot at maybe getting an interview. Keep in mind that if hiring really picks up at the majors (or legacy carriers, or whatever you call them), there are going to be literally thousands of people who have been regional captains for many years and will have lots and lots of turbine PIC.
