I don't mean your drive to the airport, but I do want to know how far your base is compared to the city you currently live in?

Do you usually get a direct flight? How many nights away from home per month do you average?

That sort of thing. I just want to find out how far is too far, or does it rely more on flight frequency rather than distance?

I know everyone has different situations, but I just want to get a feel what people find reasonable for my future plans.

Thanks

One or two flights withing the same time zone is managable. I have friends who commute from west coat to Florida, and I do not know how they do it. I used to have a 3 leg commute on the east coast and that was a pain in the butt for me. I hope you company has a commuter policy.

Frequency, load factors, and js agreements with the carriers that handle the city pair all factor in. Ideal situation would be 3 or more flights that will get you to work before showtime. Keep a pass in your back pocket in case js is taken by other pilot or fed and they can only offer one js.

Ditto what Dave said. Frequency, Frequency, Frequency, then jumpseat, then load factors. I commute 1200 nm but its one leg with tons of frequency. I have been bumped less than five times in 2.5 years, but that's mostly because I'm lucky I guess.
