I'm interested in finding out if other regionals out there will bypass a more senior pilot bidding for upgrade for a specific domicile, to just transfer one in that is already in the seat (more junior) just to get someone in there asap and avoid the training costs of putting the more senior pilot in class. It seems that this has been happening fairly regularly here at SkyWest and some of us would like to know how this works at other companies for some ammunition to fight it. We see it as a breach of seniority, but obviously SGU does not.

ASA is now using the contract (it waived mins for some time). Now, regardless of seniority you must have: ATP written passed, current 1st class, 3000tt fixed wing, 2000tt multi, 500 hours with company. Good luck- Wil

Here at Mesaba, a vacancy (which we haven't had in a while) is posted for the open positions. Any pilot who has the seniority to hold the position, and the requirements to hold the upgrade/new position (flight time, ATP written, not under a position freeze) can be awarded the open position regardless of current domicile/position. This can create a lot of secondary vacancies, so it is probably not ideal from a company standpoint.

I have a few friends at PSA and it seems to me that they do things a bit differently. Apparently at PSA if the new position is in DAY, then only pilots currently domiciled in DAY are eligible for that position (this is happening with the new CRJs, I believe). They apparently do domicile and equipment/position bids separately.

Hope that helps.

as a former colganite, I was hired a street captain in 2002. so were approx 35 others. some us airways, northwest, united furloughs.

many fos lacked time. now many of these fos i fllew with, who were good sticks are still being denied the seat because of politics as follows.

they have to appeat before a committee, do a sim eval, and be invited to do this, by the same committee which uses brownie points as a criteria for upgrade. if you've challenged dispatch, scheduling over regs. forget, move on. soome of my buds have been screwed by this. but since they were quality guys to begin with, they're leaving in droves to TSA, chitau., skywest!!!!!

my ship came in as well. Thank GOD!

Just to clarify, Skywest does not upgrade out of seniority.

I myself got hosed as a senior FO at a domocile a few years ago waiting for upgrade. They were not running classes at the time, but found the need to move captains in to my domicile. As it turned out, people junior to me (who already had upgraded) got in and I was forced to move out to upgrade.

Yeah it sucked, but guess what, that is the way it went then. And those guys who were junior to me that came in to my dom. upgraded at another dom. so that they could transfer in. They made the sacrifice, I had to pay later. It actually worked out better in the long run.

Now I know SGU has a habit of doing this even now when they are running classes every month. Seems to me it stops when people start putting pen to paper to make formal complaints.

Fokker,
The problem is that ther ARE running the upgrade classes! Unfortunately, the only people getting DEN are xfers and not class awardees. I've been watching it for almost a year. I know why they'd rather just xfer someone junior in as opposed to sending someone else to class. Money. I see it as a breach of seniority, plain and simple! Every month that goes by that I dont get the upgrade that I am eligible for and have plenty of seniority to hold, it costs me $1000 in pay. That's about a 30% difference.

check the last class award... upgrades for denver, some out of domicile, some are transitions, but no out of seniority issues this time.

I am not saying that it has never happened, I know it has, just that instead of whining, not saying that you are but you KNOW how our DEN and SLC crew lounges are, file a PIC with SAPA. Usually, after bringing it to their attention it's resolved. Obviously not always.

Yep, just re-checked again. 2 of 3 xfers to DEN in December are junior to me. I think you may be looking at CRJ as I've been referring to the Brasilia upgrade. Sorry, should have been more clear. I did file a PIC right away, but from what I've heard it doesnt matter much because they've been doing this for quite some time, as you have obviously found out the hard way. When my PIC gets answered, I'll be sure to post the results on the company forums.
